Is it bad that Super Pooper only naps in the baby swing? Well, that’s not entirely true. She also naps in her bouncy seat and car seat. It’s not that I haven’t tried putting her down in her bassinette, cradle and crib (yes, she has three beds), it’s just that she doesn’t stay asleep there very long. While I worry my reliance on battery induced sleep will come back to haunt me when she’s too big for the swing, I’m quick to forego my feeble attempts to get her to sleep lying down so she’ll take a longer nap. Nap time is crucial to the work-at-home mom! So this is my rationalization. A well-rested baby is a happier baby.
Therefore, when my dad saw her head flopped over to the side and asked, “Do you think that hurts her neck sleeping like that?” I hesitate just long enough to dismiss my first thought of maybe, but she’s asleep and respond, “She slept in the womb all hunched over. She’s fine.”

BiB, does Graco make a bouncy seat in my size?
A word of caution… My son was the same way. He would only sleep in the bouncy or swing. The problem is that he often slept with his head turned to the left as a matter of preference and he developed a flat spot (plagiocephaly) on the back right side of his head. It was very difficult to correct and if we hadn’t been successful, he would have needed a $1200 helmet to wear for several months. Boppy makes a sfot little pillow with a hole in it to reduce pressure spots on the head. You might consider using one if your daughter continues to sleep better in swings, bouncers etc
(better late than never, huh?… just found your blog and I am really enjoying it!!!)
Just wanted to let you know that my youngest daughter slept just like that! She would only nap in the swing… and sorry, but with two other kids to look after, there were many times it was a blessing!!
My two oldest both had stints when they would *only* sleep in their car seats (the carrier type). So, once they had me trained that that was the only way it was gonna be… I’d strap them in, just as if we were going out, and plunk the car seat down in the middle of the crib. I absolutely *hated* it, the first few times with my oldest daughter… but, believe me (and I’m sure you know), it didn’t take many more times of her screaming, only to be comforted by the security of the car seat, for me to just deal with my ‘mommy guilt’, get over it, and let her sleep as she wanted.
As I recall, we didn’t have much trauma switching to the plain ole’ crib… ya know, they eventually out grow those carrier thingies when they are, oh, about THREE!!! (LOL - that *was* a joke ;0 )… But, really, the transition was relatively painless and they’ve all grown up to be happy, well-adjusted children who sleep just fine
If it wasn’t napping in the swing, it would be something else, wouldn’t it?? Mommy guilt… ahhhh… just embrace it!!!
