I honestly can’t remember the last time I slept through the night. I didn’t sleep well while I was pregnant with Turbo Tot, and now at 10 months old, she still isn’t sleeping through the night! While she is the main reason I’m not getting a decent night’s sleep, she’s not the only reason.

You see, every now and then she sleeps through the night without needing me. However, it is precisely on these nights that one of my other two daughters does. Ugh. Either Feisty Girl has a nightmare or Sweet Angel has a cough. I wish they could coordinate their needs so they happened all on the same night, but no such luck. So I’ve accepted the fact that one of my three kids will wake me at least one time a night for…ever.

What I wasn’t expecting was to be awakened by a fourth child, at least not yet.

Last night I awoke to the sound of a baby crying. Nothing new here. So I got up and started walking toward the nursery even though I had the strangest thought…that doesn’t sound like my baby.

When I walked in and found my baby fast asleep I was befuddled, but only for a moment. I quickly realized the baby I was hearing was the one across the street. Huh?

Then at 2:00 a.m. I had a moment of clarity.

Last night when I thought I turned the baby monitor on, I didn’t. I did however switch the frequency on the monitor by mistake. By switching the frequency on one end of the monitor, but not both, I picked up the frequency used by our neighbors. So eavesdropping possibilities aside, I was pissed! I was up in the middle of the night and it wasn’t even for my own children! Grrr.

So I tiptoed into the nursery and switched the frequency back. As I was turning to tiptoe back out, Turbo Tot woke up. Double Grrr.

Am I ever going to sleep through the night again? I’m beginning to think not.

Of all the bad luck! When you catch up on sleep, you’ll laugh about this one. Not yet, though.

Oh no! I do have to admit that I laughed out loud when I read this though. I know it’s not really funny to you, I’m so sorry you’re not getting more sleep, but still… tee hee…. I can’t help it! Of all the luck… I hope you get a quiet, crying-free, monitor off night soon.

I’ve heard of things like this happening! I never experienced it myself, but my friend did. She ended up hearing her neighbors having sex and she freaked out wondering if they were that loud or if the monitor base was in the parents’ room. Yikes.

I think you need a mini-vacation so that you can get a good night’s sleep. How does New York in April sound? *L* (Liz and I are going to BlogHer Business.)

I feel you. I have slept through the night MAYBE 5 times in three years, other than nights when I was away from my kids. No lie. And I have been away from my kids maybe 3 nights in their lives.

I didn’t know you could do that with baby monitors. Wow, the possibilities. I’m surprised they haven’t used that trick in the movies to eavesdrop on the next house. That’s kinda freaky. What if you heard your neighbor’s arguing about your family, or something? Weird. Hope you actually get some sleep, though!

I have to admit I did find some humor in the situation. I often wonder if they hear us too!

LOL I have resigned myself to the fact that I will NEVER get to sleep in nor sleep through the night ever again. If it’s not the dog snoring or having nightmares it’s the one of the three kiddos or all of them that need something every single night!!

Don’t ya just love hubbys that don’t get up in the middle of the night or early saturday morning so you can get a little sleep??? LOL!

HAHAHAHA! Oh my gosh, you just never get a break, do you? While all of my kids are technically “sleeping through the night” right now, I haven’t had a night in ages where they all actually DID. Someone always wets the bed, or has a nightmare, or gets sick, or whatever. Sigh. I don’t think it gets better.
