I always love participating in MamaBlogga’s Group Writing Project. This month’s theme was “The Best Things About This Age.” We were free to go in any direction as long as we focused on our children.

I have three girls, ages 8 months, 7 and 9, and I can say without hesitation that I’ve loved all the ages so far. But when my first born started moving out of the baby phase, I was worried. Would I like the next phase as much? And the answer has been undoubtedly yes.

Now my oldest is in the “tween” years. She’s not a little girl anymore, nor is she an adolescent. She’s in beTWEEN. I love this age for so many reasons. The best thing about having a tween is she:

- Enthusiastically shares what’s going on in her life.

- Is growing into a beautiful young woman with her own sense of style.

- Still likes to play with her American Girl doll and hugs her teddy bear as she sleeps.

- Helps with the baby without being asked and scoops her up when she’s crying, allowing my hubby and I to finish our dinner.

- Loves to play outside riding her bike, playing kickball and building things.

- Is sensitive to the challenges of being a mommy.

- Likes playing games as a family.

- Is taking on more responsibility around the house.

- Still loves to cuddle.

Now I’m worried again. The teenager years are just around the corner. Will I like that phase too?

I hope so. I think so. I will.

Oh you’re making me look forward to having a tween! What a sweet post and I love the photo - she’s got a beautiful smile. I’ve been dreading the teen years - but it’s probably more the fear of the unknown than anything else… :)

What a loving post. How much you find joy in her. She is a very pretty litte …tween. My goodness you have made me stop to think my girl is fast becoming a tween at 10. She too has so many of these characteristics. They do grow up so fast. Today my daughter helped with the breakfast for I am off my feet. She came in and cuddled this morning for some time too. I am so glad to find the glee in her.

I was worried about the tween years (it seems like the teen attitude hits earlier and earlier these days!), but I’m glad to hear about the good points!

Thanks for participating; I’ll add your post in a little while!

I know exactly what you mean. My oldest will be 9 in one week (wow!). I sit in amazement, watching her become such a young lady.

She is always there, willing to help… her favorite ‘chore’ is helping me make dinner. She LOVES to cook and I really enjoy sharing that with her.

They certainly can be challenging, though, huh?

LOVE your post! Your tween is simply gorgeous! Enjoy it… they’ll be all grown up way too fast :(

I feel the same way about my tween…but in a “he’s a boy” kind of way. I’m excited and terrified at the same time about the coming years.

By the way, the picture of your daughter looks just like you!

The tween years were so full of contrasts for mine. The blankie, neatly folded beside the shower stall, with her deodorant on top. Shopping for Beanie Babies — and bras. Ah, the years sped by so quickly.

Watching them grow - too fast! Teenage years will be just fine because of what you’ve done for her so far and because of what you will continue to do for her . . . be there for her every step of the way!
