Wow, your hospital story is eerily similar to mine, only my rare anaemia is Aplastic Anemia/MDS and I just got released from 3 weeks inside having a bone marrow transplant… Good to know they got yours under control and diagnosed, though. I completely understand how DULL transfusions are, I was getting 2 platlets and 2 reds a week over the six months leading up to my BMT. Do you get to keep your Hickman line in for a while? I’ve had mine for 2.5 months now and LOVE it, not more jab, jab, jab, jab trying to find my crappy veins!
Melissa,
I am sorry to hear that you had to go through a BMT. I’m glad you were able to find a donor and it sounds like things went well. I am wishing you a very speedy and healthy recovery! As for my line, they took that out when I left the hospital. I am down to twice weekly blood draws right now, so it is not so bad. But you are right – I loved having the line in the hospital because I was on timed CBCs, every 4 hours. My veins collapsed within the first day and a half, so it was so much easier to have them draw off the line!
