Sparkplugging is starting a new tradition called “Spark an idea Thursday.” As part of this tradition, I’ll be sharing with you my experiences and interpretations for each week’s topic for those of you who sell products or services online.

I invite you to grab our image over there to the right and carry the tradition through to your own blog. If you do, please link back to this post so we know where you were inspired!

The theme of this week’s Spark an Idea Thursday is: Spark an Idea That Shows Appreciation.

From Jenn:

Showing appreciation for my subscribers is something I love to do a few times a year!  It makes me happy to see them happy.
Over the years there have been many friendships made and the people I interact with are what makes me want to get up in the morning.  To me, that’s priceless.
I do a few things over at Boutique Bargains:
1) BINGO! We play virtual bingo on our forum!  It’s so fun and interactive.  The winner gets a $25 Visa Gift card to spend on whatever they want.  Here’s how we play:  Pick 25 words from a list of 100. These will be your BINGO card words & you will email them to the game hostess. Everyday, 3 words will be drawn & posted on the forum. When one of your words is picked, cross it off your card. First player to cross off all their words is the winner!
2) Feature an eBay seller on our blog or home page. There’s nothing more exciting than seeing your name in print with a little bit of free advertising!  I’ll feature someone who submits a question through the contact form and answer them on the blog with a link to their eBay store. Or, I’ll use their testimonial on our home page.
3) Some nice inventory at cost. This one is always a fun one for me!  I’ll pick a few pieces of my eBay inventory and send out a email.  The email contains what the item is, my cost and free shipping.  It’s usually a gorgeous piece of Boutique inventory that will resell very well.  The first person to reply with an “I’LL TAKE IT”, wins!  They can do what ever they want with the item – resell it, gift it, give it to their own kids, etc.
From Michelle:
Several of my design and hosting clients have been with me for more than five years. Other clients may be new, but we work so well together that they have a special place in my heart.
I’ve developed some programs and practices that show my appreciation for both these groups.
1) Customer loyalty program. For those long-time clients, I give special consideration and discounts. For example, we periodically send special offers on hosting or web design services to long-time customers that we don’t send to anyone else.  We also offer discounts on any new projects  longtime clients may want to bring to us.
2) Value-added services and products. Besides just hosting and design, we also offer several educational opportunities to our new clients, such as free initial consultations, free access to learning courses and disounts on ebooks and other resources of internet marketing information.
Basically, we show appreciation by going out of our way to take care of our clients.

Love the Bingo idea. How creative!

Michelle – I’m thinking of implementing a points program too that rewards people for loyalty or staying subscribed. Just haven’t worked out the details.

People always love something free. When I am putting product together for a customer I always include a little something extra in the bag for them – a fun surprise. It costs me very little but goes along way in the customer service department.
