Be Aware of “Wholesale” Web-Sites

I have to share one of the most common occurrences I come across with new eBay sellers.  New comers of eBay set up shop, know what they want to sell – and don’t do a bit of research!  Only to find themselves full of inventory they can’t sell, waisted money and more often then not – deep in debt.

I received an email from one of my readers excited about a Wholesale supplier that they found on the Internet.  Just by doing a simple google search – they were able to find a great deal on designer clothing.  They purchased a large quantity and were anxiously awaiting its arrival.

My jaw dropped.  As much as I wanted to share in the excitement of their findings – I just couldn’t.  My heart was breaking because I knew that the awful truth was the website she purchased from wasn’t a true wholesale supplier.  I had to gently break it to her that the items she purchased, although were genuine, were also saturated on eBay.  By walking her through how to do some research on eBay we quickly found many of the same item.  Were they selling?  Yes, they were.  However, not for the profit one might have hoped for.  You can tell by the completed listing search on eBay that many eBay sellers had sought out the same product, from the same ”wholesale” supplier.

The truth is, it’s extremely difficult as an eBay seller to obtain items directly from the manufacturer or wholesale distributor unless you can prove that you have a ‘brick and mortar’ retail location of your own. Only a small percentage of these distributors will cater to eBay sellers and those are the ones you will find by doing a simple google search.  The “real” wholesale distributors are not found by searching google.  They are found by a local area representative who is selling specific brand for the manufacturer.

There are plenty of ways to obtain true inventory for your eBay store without having the worry of trusting over stock type sites bringing down your profit margin.

By doing research, and being sure of your selling points you’ll be on a much smoother path to stocking your eBay store with profitable  items.
