spark-an-ideaSparkplugging is starting a new tradition called Spark an idea Thursday. As part of this tradition, I will be sharing with you my experiences and interpretations for each weeks topic for those of you who sell products or services online.

I invite you to grab our image over there to the right -> and carry the tradition through to your own blog. If you do, please link back to this post so we know where you were inspired!

The theme of this week’s Spark an Idea Thursday is: Spark an Idea About Purging.

From iGoogle WordMonkey Dictionary:

Purge: noun

  1. the act of clearing yourself (or another) from some stigma or charge
  2. an act of removing by cleansing; ridding of sediment or other undesired elements

Recently, I’ve started really dreading going into my inbox.  This is something that may take my readers by suprise.  I truely enjoy what I do, and it requires a lot of research, follow up and communication.  But lately, my inbox is getting out of control with newsletters and offers from other online marketers and retail locations that I’ve subscribed to.

I can sift through 300 email a day, easily.  It will take me an hour to get through ONE email account.  I have 3 email accounts  that I actively use daily.  One for personal and two for business.  While I feel it’s important to separate business and personal – I no longer feel the need to have two business email accounts.

I find that recently, I will spend more time deleting email than actually reading what is being sent to me!  One day while feverishly deleting email – I thought to myself – “DUH, I could just be unsubscribing to all of these, instead of wasting my time deleting day after day!”  ;-)

So, I’m purging!  My thoughts are to work smarter about what email I need to receive in order to help my business grow. I’m oganizing Google (gmail) for business where I can set up folders for each email to be automatically sent to and filed.  Each day I will be able to scan the ‘money maker’ folders and work on the ‘learning’ folders at my leisure.  This is going to save me much needed time I can put into my business.

Hi Jen,
It’s indeed surprise to notice the content as title didn’t imply that kinda content. If that’s your purpose, you have succeeded, if not, then, I know it won’t be the case next time. However, I completely empathize with your situation as that’s case with some of my email accounts as well. Jenn, do you think that you might miss some good ideas in the process?

Hey Chris!
I think saving what you want to take ideas from and keeping them in another folder is good – however, if it’s taking away from being productive then its time to let them go.
