Freelance Advice from the Blogosphere

As we’ve been building this blog over the last few weeks, I have found myself more and more deeply immersed in other people’s online musings. There are a few reasons for this. First of all, I want to know what is being talked about out there in the blogosphere, especially as it relates to freelancing and writing. Secondly, many bloggers read Freelance Parent. I love reading their comments here and end up following them over to their own blogs to continue the conversation. Finally, Tamara and I are brand new at this freelancing thing, and we can use as much guidance as possible. Reading other people’s blogs is one of the best ways I know to educate ourselves about the field we’ve chosen. Upon occasion, we’d like to take the opportunity to share with you some of the great stuff that other freelancers are writing about. Here are a few particularly interesting things I’ve come across in the last week or so:

  • Laura’s Work From Home Momma talks about all aspects of being a WAHM. (Is it politically correct to say W.A.H.P-as-in-Parent?) Anyway, she does a series where she interviews other WAHMs about their businesses. I’m going to just link you to the entire Work-At-Home Interview Series. In the same vein, check out the interview about Bloomin’ Belly Soaps in Genesis’ Motivational Monday post on At Home Mom Blog. I can’t stop thinking about these things – it must be my hippie upbringing! ;-)
  • I have already found a couple of sites that are reprinting all or part of some of our posts here at Freelance Parent, and it annoys me quite a bit. My ire has nothing on Deb’s over at Freelance Writing Jobs. She’s gives a nice run-down on When Is It OK to Post Someone Else’s Content?
  • Dana at The Writer’s Blog talks about a subject most freelancers can understand: Just getting the darn job done! In The Last Mile of a Big Assignment, she talks about how to keep yourself going when that certain project just seems to drag on and on.
  • While I’ve had a couple of people step up to offer guest posts on my own Something Good blog, I’d love to have more. If you’ve got something to add to the conversation, feel free to submit a piece. (Unfortunately, guest posts are unpaid.)

Thanks for the mention!! I’d like to add, that while my “Up For Debate” spots aren’t paid, should they attract enough attention in the long run, there just may be the possibility of financial compensation :-)

The idea is still in its infancy, so we’ll see what happens.

I’ll be sure to follow the other links!

Lorna,

Thanks for the mention. I am so glad that you enjoy Work From Home Momma! I work hard to make it useful to a wide variety of folks who work at home.

The interview series is one of my personal favorites, too. I love doing them and I think the readers like them too.

P.S. I do use the term work-at-home-parent sometimes.
