Thanks to everyone for your well-wishes and congratulations on the new office. Tamara and I (and the Berry|Brewer Babies) spent the afternoon shopping for the new space. If we weren’t already over the moon, we certainly would be now. The desks we chose are very “writerly,” and we have plans for a lovely little sitting area, too. My worries about us trying to decorate together seem to be unfounded, as our most difficult decision ended up being whether to get orange candles or green ones.
All of this in the midst of one of the busiest weeks we can remember ever having!
Trying to figure out how to get everything done has become more and more difficult. We would love to get the office set up, of course, but with back-to-back-to-back projects on our schedules, the outlook was pretty grim. The fact of the matter is that it was time to get some help.
Asking for help can be a little difficult for us freelancers, especially those of us who are parents. After all, we’re pretty used to handling everything ourselves. “Sure, I can do a phone interview, take notes, and feed the baby at the same time!” (I’ve done it, and I’m sure I’m not the only one around here who can say that.) So, it’s not the easiest thing ever to admit that you just can’t do it all anymore.
One result is that Tamara’s husband will be picking up and assembling the furniture. We want so badly to jump in and start using the space, but the only way we could do that at this point would be to sit on the floor with our laptops. Thank goodness for supportive spouses, right?
Next up is getting help with the writing. I’ve mentioned that we were planning to make some changes this spring, but it looks like we may be moving up the timeline a bit, as we have been fortunate enough to gain a few new big clients in the last few weeks. This means that we will again need to ask for help. Well, I suppose we’ll be offering it, too, as this means that it is time to reach out to some new writers. We so love the idea of being able to help other freelancers reach their dreams, and it is such a wonderful feeling to be able to do just that as our business grows.
So, yeah. Exciting times around here. What’s new with you?

Congratulations on your growth spurt! And yes, I’ve fed the baby while on the phone with a client taking notes. And then she had a massive blow-out poop, right onto my jeans….. Not ideal, but it can be done!
Yay for you ladies! Can’t wait to see pics once the new office is all together!

How does one go about being added to your writer pool? I know of a few people who might be interested.
With all the Doom and Gloom abounding now, it’s great to about success.
I’m in the very beginning of trying to enter the freelance business. I have an idea, no paying clients yet. I know what I’m going to call my business. My wife said she’d design the website and business cards.
Any advice for someone just starting out?
Well done ladies, you really do deserve it and it’s brilliant that you tell your readers exactly what you do and how you do it. If you are outsourcing work in the future I would love to be included on your list.

@Craig – On the right side of the blog, you’ll see a column called “categories.” Click on the one called “getting started,” and you’ll find several posts on things we learned as we got our business up and running. Good luck to you!
That’s very exciting. Congratulations.

I can`t wait to see photos of your “writerly” desks! So exciting!
There`s nothing wrong with asking for help, you know, and the fact that you have hubbies ready to help should make it easier to ask for it.
Something I`d be interested in hearing more about in the future is how your husbands are dealing with your success.
