Pretty good examples of freelancing situations. I could go with several movies such as the "runner" with Arnold starring. Everybody is betting (bidding) and there is one challenge after another in each race. At the end Arnold beats the whole show and that would be the metaphor for beating the online freelancing game :)

Just my two cents ;)

LOL! What a great post, and the comments are awesome, too!

I think my career is more like the Shawshenk Redemption. The prize is out there, but meanwhile I have to put in my time doing what`s necessary while chipping away at my personal goals until I finally have a tunnel to the world where I really want to be.

And in the meantime, things don`t run smoothly, you get beat up sometimes, sometimes you get the library gig . . . sometimes you have to write 1 letter a day to get the work you need. lol

Try this one, Stephanie. :-)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091374/

When it comes to movies, IMDB has all the goss. :-)

Anyway... hhmmmm... a movie to describe my freelancing career?

Probably the FIRST Star Wars. You know, the original Star Wars. It all starts with a shoot out and the ships being hijacked and the princess is taken prisoner but they sneak the plans out with the droids in an escape pod.

Eventually we find the 'main' character. He's a wet behind the ears boy who has no clue what he's doing but manages to fumble along.

Thankfully, he makes some pretty clued in friends that help him become a little LESS wet behind the ears. Just in time for him to start getting shot at.

They're all running about like crazy trying to save everyone because everything that's going on is pretty urgent and you just know you can't leave the princess behind despite the old guy telling you to stay where you are.

You end up heading this huge rebellion and while you're still pretty wet behind the ears you get lucky enough times to actually look like you're pretty good.

*chuckles* That's my freelancing career. I'm still feeling pretty wet behind the ears and sometimes I'm running about trying not to get shot at while I'm saving everyone but I get lucky enough times to make it look like I know what I'm doing. ;-)

Hi Lorna,
Somehow I don't think either of the links quite makes it to the Lady Jane movie you mentioned.
Cheers Stephanie

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. And, Stephanie, I hadn't even thought of the whole "sequel" angle. Thanks a lot. The link you left seems to go to a song, hopefully this one will link to the film for real: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Jane_(film).

"bus crashing into a subway and Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves making out in the rubble"
-or-
I hope you realize that wasn't the end. Your client may be back in the sequel.
Oh, the thought.
Cheers Stephanie

This post is just awesome! I loved reading every single word. Seriously. It's just awesomeness! LOL ;-)

I'm not sure what my movie is. I'll definitely be thinking about it, though, and I'll post it when I figure it out!

Thanks for an enjoyable read. How fun!

You had me chuckling all the way through this post... excellent! Well, when you posed the question I immediately thought of The Net. I think that's what it is called. You know the one with Sandra Bullock? She works from home as a freelance computer geek and does everything from order pizza to work and make reservations on the internet. Before you know it she's being pursued by the bad guys, hiding from the law and trying to keep her and her mother safe.

That feels like my life. All I want to do is work from home peacefully and talk to my computer - oh, I mean talk to people through my computer. LOL. Disaster keeps striking and people are after me!

I enjoyed this... I may just expound on this on my blog. Thanks for getting my creative juices flowing.

OMG! I loved reading your post. SO true in so many ways.. "You sit down to work on a nice little project you’ve been assigned, only to find out that the client—who lives across country but has your cell phone number—is totally freaking nuts." Definitely something I can relate to ;-)
