My girls and I had such a fun time making Rice Krispie treats in the shape of pumpkins for Halloween and Rice Krispie treats in the shape of hearts for Valentine’s Day, that when I was looking for Easter desserts to make I of course thought of Rice Krispie treats once again. Hmmm. What shape did we make the Rice Krispie treats this time? You guessed it . . . in the shape of Easter eggs.
Here’s What You Need to Make Easter Egg Shaped Rice Krispie Treats:
- Cooking spray
- 3 T. butter
- 1 16 oz. bag of large marshmallows
- Red food coloring (blue and green food coloring is optional)
- 9 cups of Rice Krispies cereal
- Cookie sheet
- Wax Paper
- Egg-shaped cookie cutter
- Pastel circle sprinkles (optional)
Here’s How to Make Easter Egg Shaped Rice Krispie Treats:
1. Lightly coat the cookie sheet with cooking spray and set it aside.
2. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
(If you’re interested in making three different colored Easter egg shaped Rice Krispie treats like we did, use three saucepans and put 1 T. of butter into each saucepan.)
3. Add the marshmallows to the pot and stir frequently until they are melted.
(If you’re making three different colored Easter egg shaped Rice Krispie treats, divide the bag of marshmallows into thirds and add 1/3 of the bag into each saucepan.)
4. Stir in drops of red food coloring until the mixture is the shade of pink you want.
(Repeat this step with the blue and green food coloring if you’re making the Easter egg shaped Rice Krispie treats in three colors.)
5. Stir in the Rice Krispies until they are evenly coated with marshmallow.
(If you’re making three different colored Easter egg shaped Rice Krispie treats, add 3 cups of Rice Krispies to each saucepan. I found it worked best if I added the Rice Krispies to one saucepan at a time. I lowered the heat on the other two saucepans while I used the egg shaped cookie cutter for the first colored mixture. This is because the marshmallow/Rice Krispie mixture cools so quickly. So it’s best not to add the Rice Krispies until you’re ready to press the cookie cutter into the other colored mixtures.)
6. Spoon the Rice Krispie mixture onto the cookie sheet and allow to cool for one minute.
(We learned if you touch it immediately, it’s too hot. If you wait too long, it gets too cold. After one minute, the mixture is just right!)
7. With waxed paper, flatten the Rice Krispie mixture to an even thickness.
8. Press the egg-shaped cookie cutter into the mixture and put each Easter egg shaped Rice Krispie treat aside.
9. Add pastel colored circle sprinkles in two rows across the Rice Krispie treats if you want them to look even more like Easter eggs!
These Easter egg shaped Rice Krispie treats are festive and are a great Easter dessert!

Cool idea! Here’s another way you can shape the eggs. Just use those plastic colored eggs come apart and then you can have three dimensional eggs. I almost always have those (plastic eggs)laying around at Easter. And they come in all different sizes. They would make a great mold.
Great idea! My 8yo granddaughter loves them. But do us all a favor, please install a ‘printer friendly’ version so I don’t have to throw out 7 pages of dross to get 3 pages of recipe.
