If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know I’m partial to easy Halloween crafts you can make with items you likely have around the house already, like this soup can mummy and paper plate pumpkin. If this is your first time here, welcome and make sure to take a look at these Halloween crafts, Halloween recipes, Halloween printables and Halloween activities that I’ve already shared!

Today I’m going to share another easy Halloween craft made from household stuff, the paper bag pumpkin.

What You Need to Make Paper Bag Pumpkins:

  • Small paper bag
  • Newspaper
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Construction paper
  • Ribbon / Yarn

How to Make Paper Bag Pumpkins:

1. Creat a pumpkin face on one side of the paper bag by using markers and/or construction paper to create two eyes, a nose and a mouth.

2. Stuff the paper bag with crumpled newspaper to fill out the bag.

3. Fold the bag over and glue it closed.

4. Use ribbon and/or yarn to decorate the top of the bag so it looks like a pumpkin head.

This simple Halloween craft is great to make with your kids at home or with a classroom of students!

I did this craft yesterday with my 3-year old daughter and 3-year old twin girls that I babysit. I modified it slightly because I was out of construction paper (I had them draw two circles and a triangle on orange tissue paper .. cute to see how 3 year olds make those shapes) and I bunched up the top of the sack and tied the ribbon and raffia around the top into a bow (because I was out of staples). Then they drew on their own mouths. They enjoyed it, it was easy and manageable and fun to have as part of my holiday decorations. Thanks for the fun ideas!
