I can’t think of St. Patrick’s Day without thinking about shamrocks, which is why I made these with my girls. However, I never thought about making shamrocks out of green peppers until I bought my latest seasonal arts and crafts book that has hundreds of easy crafts to do with items you have around the house already. The good news is that I had a green pepper in the fridge. The bad news is that I can’t remember what recipe it was for!

Here’s What You Need to Make Painted Pepper Shamrocks:

  • Green pepper cut in half
  • Green paint
  • Paint brush or paper plate
  • Paper
  • Paper towel

Here’s How to Make Painted Pepper Shamrocks:

1. Press the half of green pepper onto a dry paper towel to get rid of excess water.

2. Dip the paint brush in green paint and paint the green pepper or dip the green pepper in a plate of green paint. Now say that ten times fast! :)

(It’s easier for older kids to paint the pepper with the paintbrush, but it’s better to have little kids just dip the pepper into a plate of green paint.)

3. Firmly press the green pepper onto a piece of paper.

4. Pull the pepper straight up off the paper so the paint doesn’t smear.

5. Use the paint brush to add a stem to the shamrock.

These shamrocks are a little abstract, but are great to make with large groups of kids, even preschoolers! While you wait for these painted pepper shamrocks to dry, you can color these leprechaun coloring pages or Irish Leprechaun activity sheets.
