Since the recipe for slime turned out so well, I decided a play dough recipe would be fun to make too! What’s great about both these kid friendly recipes is that they’re easy and made from ingredients you likely have around the house already!

play dough recipe

Here’s What You Need to Make this Play Dough Recipe:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Food coloring (as many drops to get the color you want)
  • 2 cups flour

Here’s How to Make this Play Dough Recipe:

1. Add all of the above ingredients, in the order listed, to a large pot.

2. Stir the play dough mixture over medium heat.

3. Once the play dough becomes stiff and difficult to stir, it is ready.

4. Remove the play dough from the pot and put it in a bowl to cool to room temperature.

Once the play dough is cool, play with it! But once you’re done playing with the play dough, make sure to store it in a sealed plastic bag so it doesn’t dry out! Here are some more easy recipes for kids!

This is a great recipe, Shannon.

We’ve tried it at home here and the best part was that it didn’t cost a fortune.

Because it didn’t take long for Mr Bump to tread it all into the ground. Bleagh! ;)

I have been using a similar recipe to this to make my own playdough as well. My kids help add all the ingredients and then they can choose their own colour. We have several different and interesting colours at the moment. We divide the mixture into two pots so we can make two colours at the same time.

I also make up several batches at a time and use them in lollies bags for my kids birthday parties instead of lollies.

Another great kid- friendly activity your readers would enjoy is to grow a TickleMe Plant from seeds and then watching the plant MOVE when Tickled! As a first grade teacher I no longer plant Lima beans, as the growing of this interactive plant, proved to be much more exciting and educational for my student’s.
I found my supplies for a classroom kit at http://www.ticklemeplant.com but they also sell individual greenhouses and even party favors, with everything you need to grow your own TickleMe Plant from seeds. I assure you your kids will be more excited about gardening, and its just fun to watch the expressions of the faces of children (and even adults) when they see the plant close its leaves and droop when tickled,
