It’s been years since I’ve gone out on New Year’s Eve without my kids. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever gone out on New Year’s Eve since I’ve had kids! I’m okay with that though. I’ve had my share of rockin’ New Year’s Eves and now I enjoy a quiet evening at home with my family. If you’re looking for things to do on New Year’s Eve with your kids, here are some things we usually do to ring in the New Year!

1. Make a Fancy Meal Together

If you have young children, this could be as simple as adding strawberry garnish to a plate of macaroni and cheese. Now that my daughters are getting older, tonight we’re having cheese fondue, filet mignon and lobster tails!

2. Play Games

We always love a good game night! So tonight I’m sure we’ll play all of our favorites like charades, Blokus, and now thanks to Santa . . . air hockey!

3. Watch a Movie

After a delicious meal and some stiff competition on the game circuit, we like to relax on the couch by the fire and watch a family movie. The tough part is just agreeing on which one!

4. Watch the Ball Drop

Now that my girls are getting older, they like to stay up until midnight and watch the ball drop in Times Square. Now that I’m getting older, I can barely stay awake that long! I’ll make sure they wake me though.

5. Toast in the New Year with Bubbly in Fancy Glasses

I don’t let my girls drink soda . . . except on New Year’s Eve. On this night, they get to ring in the New Year with a sip of the “bubbly” in our nicest champagne glasses. They absolutely love this special treat!
