My girls and I had such a fun time making Rice Krispie treats in the shape of pumpkins at Halloween and egg shaped Rice Krispie treats for Easter, that I thought it would be equally fun to make Rice Krispie treats in the shape of hearts for Valentine’s Day. Although the holiday is different, these Rice Krispie treats are just as yummy and easy! Only this time they turned out pink instead of orange.

Here’s What You Need to Make Valentine Rice Krispie Treats:

  • Cooking spray
  • 3 T. butter
  • 1 16 oz. bag of large marshmallows
  • Red food coloring
  • 9 cups of Rice Krispie cereal
  • Cookie sheet
  • Wax Paper
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • Pot holders (I’ll explain!)

Here’s How to Make Valentine Rice Krispie Treats:

1. Lightly coat the cookie sheet with cooking spray and set it aside.

2. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.

3. Add the marshmallows to the pot and stir frequently until they are melted.

4. Stir in drops of red food coloring until the mixture is the shade of pink or red you want.

5. Stir in the Rice Krispies until they are evenly coated with marshmallow.

6. Spoon the Rice Krispies mixture onto the cookie sheet and allow to cool for one minute.

(We learned if you touch it immediately, it’s too hot. If you wait too long, it gets too cold. After one minute, the mixture is just right!)

7. With waxed paper, flatten the Rice Krispies mixture to an even thickness.

8. Press the heart-shaped cookie cutter into the mixture to create the Valentine Rice Krispie treats.

(We found it easier to press the cookie cutter into the Rice Krispies when we put a pot holder between our hands and the cookie cutter. Of course, we could just be soft. Speaking of soft, if the Rice Krispies mixture gets too hard to cut into hearts, put it in a bowl and microwave it for 15 seconds. We had to do this a couple times because the Rice Krispies mixture cools quickly.)

These heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats are not only yummy, but are great to give to friends on Valentine’s Day or to bring to classroom parties!
