So I’m taking Kelly McCausey’s SparkplugU class Podcasting Bootcamp - Strategy Through Implementation. A-mazing. Kelly really knows her stuff. She knows the right buttons to push and the right questions to ask. Like “why do you want to podcast? what is your goal?”
My husband told me many months ago I should do a podcast. Just like when he said I should start a blog, I said, “eh. I don’t wanna.” But since he was right about the blog, I’m wondering if I should listen about the podcast.
Why do I want to podcast? I realize not everyone digests their media in the same way. I personally like my info in small, digestible typed bites, but there are others who prefer the spoken word. I’d still have the same mission:
To offer small business owners and entrepreneurs useful information on marketing in a Web 2.0 world.
I like that. I like what I do on my blog, and love hearing from you readers when I help you with some marketing topic you were unsure about. So why not reach more people with a podcast?
Right now, time is my main constriction. Do I really want to take on something that takes me a while to ramp up and start doing well? What about promotion? It took nearly a year before I saw any real results from my blog, and even then they were modest.
But then again, as someone who writes about marketing in a Web 2.0 world, I sometimes feel like a hypocrite when I don’t do more branching out into different technologies and methods. So I probably should do it.
I gave a survey to my contacts and here’s what they say they’d like in a marketing podcast:
- 11 want: Specific how-tos such as writing press releases creating email campaign etc.
- 3 want: Discussion of relevant examples of what companies are doing in marketing.
- 2 want: General commentary on internet marketing from an expert.
And as Kelly requested, here’s a list of some topics I’d cover if I did podcast:
- Quick tips:
- press releases
- email marketing
- ebook marketing
- blogging to promote your business
- internet advertising
- social media
- Commentary
- Social networking
- Web 2.0/3.0
- Relevance of email marketing
- PR and bloggers
- How’d They Do It? (case studies of companies doing noteworthy marketing)
I’m still on the journey of deciding if I want to do it, so stick around and see what happens. Or better yet, let me know what you think and if you want the Marketing Eggspert to podcast!
