There are a bajillion new words surrounding Twitter being invented every day, so I don’t pretend this list is complete. And I borrowed from Shannon Yelland’s Twittonary post. If you have other terms, please leave them in the comments!
#: People who are discussing a topic or event often use a hashtag followed by letters that represent the topic to make it searchable. For instance, at BlogWorld 2008, we used #BWE08 to signify our conversations.
DM: Direct message. Sending a direct message means only the recipient will get it. If using TweetDeck, type D username to get to work (trust me; did it wrong and put my phone # out to 2,000 people!)
Follow: When you find a Twitter user you want to keep up with, you follow them. All their tweets will appear on your page.
Reply: Use this when you want to respond to another person’s tweet.
Retweet: This reposts another person’s tweet. Use when you find link or tweet interesting or useful.
Twaunt: To taunt someone over twitter.
Tweeple: People who use Twitter.
Tweet: A message sent out via Twitter.
Tweetaholism: The continued use of Twitter as an addiction that is difficult to control.
TweetDeck: An application for your desktop that helps you organize the tweeple you follow, as well as get updates in real time.
TweetLater: A tool that allows you to preschedule tweets to go out at a later date.
Tweetup: A meetup of people who use Twitter in a given area.
Twitpic: A tool that lets you share photos on Twitter.
Twitterati: The glamorous A-List twitterer’s everyone wants to follow.
TwitThis: A tool that lets people tweet content on your website or blog.
What else should I add to the list?
