It’s that time again — time to announce this month’s special contest for Bloggers. This month we have something great for those of you who love technology
Did you know that you can use Skype and a webcam to check-in on your children while you’re at the office or on the road? Follow the simple steps below to set up your very own “Kiddie Cam!”
- Sign Up for Skype
- Sign up for two free accounts (the “Kiddie Cam” set-up will require one account at home and a second account at the office).
To get an account, download the Skype software from the web site on both your home computer and work computer (Mac or Windows), then choose a user name and password for each account. The process takes approximately ten minutes.
- Sign up for two free accounts (the “Kiddie Cam” set-up will require one account at home and a second account at the office).
- Set up the Webcams
- Set up one webcam at home to be able to check-in on your children from any computer. Choose the webcam of your preference and follow the instructions to set up the webcam.
b. To set up the “Kiddie Cam” to run automatically on your home computer while you are at the office, go to the top of your contact list for your home account. Click “File” on the upper left hand corner, select “Privacy” and ensure the following settings are configured as follows (these settings need to be made for your home computer only):- Calls: Allow calls from: Only people from my Contacts
- Calls: Automatically answer incoming calls
- Calls/Video Settings: Select webcam: Default Video Device/Your Camera
- Calls/Video Settings: Enable Skype Video
- Calls/Video Settings: Start my video automatically when I am on a call
- Calls/Video Settings: Automatically receive video from: No one
To see your child while at the office, make sure to set up the webcam in an area where the camera will easily “see” your child (i.e. the child’s bedroom, crib, or play area).
- Use the “Kiddie Cam”
- To see your child from any computer log on to your second Skype account (use the username that is not in use at home). Call your home Skype account to automatically view your child, whether they are reading a book, working on an arts project, or taking a nap.
- Set up one webcam at home to be able to check-in on your children from any computer. Choose the webcam of your preference and follow the instructions to set up the webcam.
Does this sound like something you want to set up at home? Excellent — I’m giving two web cams away!
Where to buy
Pair the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam with Skype Version 3.6 (or higher) for a High Quality Video experience that is so good, making a video call is almost better than being there in person. In addition to support for High Quality Video on Skype, the QuickCam Pro 9000 combines Carl Zeiss optics with autofocus technology for improved image quality, even in the most extreme close-ups. Furthermore, a five-element glass lens and true 2.0-megapixel sensor that can capture 8.0-megapixel photos ensure that the video-calling experience is better than ever before.
Right now you can get this web cam at Amazon for just $82.
