I don’t often talk about my husband, because he’s not a very entrepreneurial guy. That is, not until recently.
You see, my husband has a longer story than I can go into here. He’s battled some serious demons (and won) during the time we have been married, but one of the things that kind of went away with the demons was his interest in music. Maybe it was because he wasn’t hanging out in bars anymore, or maybe he was just getting older and he thought he had to let go of his dream to be a rock star.
But Dave is an amazing songwriter. At the age of ten he picked up a guitar and was singing and playing Beatles songs in less than 15 minutes (I kid you not). I’ve pushed and prodded him for years to do something with the 1000+ songs he has written. Sell them, record them - give them away for free for crying out loud, just get his dang songs out there, because they are really, really good. And although I am a pretty biased judge of his talents, every single one of his friends has said to him, “Man, I am PISSED at you for never doing anything with your music. You should have been a star.”
Well, I don’t know what changed in him recently, but somehow Dave’s been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. He’s now starting a music publishing company. Suddenly he’s turning to me saying “I want to start a blog; I need to get onto MySpace; Can you help me set up a shopping cart?”. I believe in him 100%, and at the same time I’m a little afraid of what life could become with two ADHD entrepreneurs at the helm… but I digress.
Most of all, I’m incredibly proud of him. He reminds me of so many of our Sparkplugging readers, who at some point in their lives wake up and realize that they were put on this earth for a purpose, and that TODAY is the day they decide to commit to making that purpose a reality. I know it’s a decision I made myself almost exactly two years ago when I started eMoms at Home. But watching other people live up to their dreams is an honor that I am grateful for every single day. And it’s what has kept me going when this site wasn’t making me a dime, or when traffic was down, or even when I just have a bad day.
There is SO much coolness oozing around here lately:
- You!!
- Sparkplugging turns two years old!
- Your business successes (and I’ve seen a lot of them!)
- A new name, new site, new authors & new blogs
- And my husband finally putting up and shutting up, making his dreams a reality
What better way to celebrate than to offer up a free song download from the big Dave ‘eDad’ Piersall himself? This is one of his older songs, but one of my favorites.
It’s called Valerie - enjoy!

Great song and a great idea to give away a freebie.
Keep it up (both of you)!
He’s got a wonderful voice and I like the song.I know we’ll be hearing more big Dave. My husband is going through the same kind of thing - and has been for about 2 years. It’s just hard to leave the regular paycheque…you know how that goes. He’ll have to make a decision soon though…other wise I may strangle him!
Congrats on the 2nd year anniversary!

Wendy! You really did post a song. That is so cool! My husband is also a musician- singer/songwriter. He has been in a band since before I met him. About 4 years ago the band got back together after being parted for 10 years. All three of the band members continued their music during that break. During that time they perfected their craft and when they got back together it was amazing how good they were together even though they hadn’t planned together in ten years.
They have a decent following and have been playing at local gigs since their reunion.
I will actually be working with them very soon to help them create a blog but they already have a myspace - myspace.com/littlejacfunky .
I am so pleased to hear that your husband has started up his music again. If your husband is anything like mine, music is in his blood and he is the person God created him to be when he is playing.
Very cool article and I love the song! Thanks for sharing.

Great tune. I have to keep this in mind when deciding what I can do on my site to help out with traffic.
A throwback to my university days! God love the bands … put myself through university playing (not singing). Just bought me a new guitar as well … a nice little garrison!
Keep up the ideas of freebies. Love it.
Way to go eDad!!

Well I heard Dave was going to make an appearance at SobCon!
I think it is great news and will be wonderful for you as it was for Des when I finally became a blogger.
Love The song
Suzie
Very impressive.
You should have him put his stuff up on NewArtistRadio.net. They specialize in new talent. I’d also love to put him on Brents In Boxers (my radio show).
Heck, I’m starting a new blog focusing on artist spotlights. I’d like to put him in there too.

Oh, Jeez do I feel like a schmuck!
I’ll dig them out of Dave’s archives and send them your way!!
Great to hear some good news! love the song.
Wendy,
I commend you and your husband for going after your dreams! I think Dave DEFINITELY has a wonderful future in music. I just LOVED the song! Great lyrics, great music and wonderful voice.
I have a book that I can send you (him) from a lady whom wanted to be a rock star and so she did just that. At age 42, she decided to learn how to play a guitar and formed a band called the Mydols with some other neighborhood moms. They aren’t really famous either however she is living her dream and she even wrote a book about it called Rock Star Mommy. Her name is Judy Davids.
I really did enjoy the song and I applaud you and Dave for having the courage to go after your dreams and one more thing….the fact that you support each other is key. That is another thing that will really go A LONG way too in this journey.
P.S. I will help in anyway I can as well to get the word out there about his music. I really enjoy music and I quite enjoyed that song…
like Easton said…MORE, MORE!!

Wendy - That was brilliant. Dave has amazing talent and it’s great that he’s decided to do something with it. I hope we’ll be hearing more of his songs.

Fantastic song - keeping Dave’s talent hidden would be a crime…well done.
Congrats to Dave for taking the leap. If I could ever lead a secret second life, it would be that of a rock star. Unfortunately, I was never blessed with Dave’s talent, so I’ll just have to keep doing what I’m doing.
