I have the new blog set up and ready to go on my account. It looks great and I can’t wait to transition fully to WordPress. So the heads up is that the eMomsatHome site will be down for a little bit this 4th of July holiday weekend so that I can change my nameservers to the new Yahoo site.
The transition from NucleusCMS was tedious, but easy. Here’s what I had to do:
- Set up WordPress, which is easy on Yahoo’s hosting because they have it preinstalled on their servers.
- Adjust the template to make it look as much as possible like the rest of the eMoms site.
- Add my Google AdSense ads, which was definitely a challenge as I really don’t know php, and the plugin to make it easy wouldn’t work. But I got it accomplished.
- Export the Nucleus content and Import into WordPress via RSS. There were a couple of scripts out there to do it automatically, but I don’t know the first thing about running a script, so that was useless to me.
- This was the tedious part. Every blog entry came imported into WordPress with the first sentence or paragraph missing. So I had to go back manually and add back in the missing content
- The second tedious part was that my Technorati tags didn’t transfer well at all. All of the two word tags came through with a question mark in the middle. So I had to change every two word tag in each post from “my?tag” to “my+tag”. What a pain!
All in all, it was a good experience, and I am SO glad I did it with less than three month’s worth of posts to move. If I had a year’s worth, I think I would have hired it out – which would have been expensive.
Stay tuned! New Blog coming soon!!
