Today my youngest daughter started Kindergarten. For the first time in almost 13 years, I have uninterrupted free time.
I can go have a latte just for the heck of it.
My family room isn’t getting trashed as I type.
I’m not being asked for candy for breakfast (since I have never once said yes to this request, I kind of wonder why they still ask me this every week).
I can be as productive as I want.
I can grow my business even more, and I’ll have more resources to dedicate to it.
So why am I so sad today?

I was going to be sending all three of my kids next week to school - but, decided to enjoy having my youngest (he is 2 1/2) around a bit more for a few months longer. I’m hoping to still be more productive though… one child is a whole lot easier than 3!

Congratulations! This is my fifth day of freedom after a long summer.
And you’re right! Why do they ask questions that have always received a no? oh well, at least they have persistence. LOL
A truly bittersweet moment, for sure, Wendy! Just seeing Caillou on TV makes me cry, because it reminds me of those years my daughter and I had together with her brothers in school - and she is in fifth grade! LOL!

But yeah, it is a little sad too. My oldest just started kinder this year and it is exciting, but when my third child gets there I think I’m going to be melancholy.
But then I’ll snap out of it and go to Starbucks ALONE!!!

Wendy - I thought I heard you all the over here! Your kids are so cute - and they look happy to go, too.
Congratulations and my sympathy. My oldest started kindergarten last week. I still have one more at home, but our area has 2 days a week, 3 hours a day preschool available for 3 year olds through the public school system and at a reasonable price, so one more year until I can put him in that.
Getting the quiet time more regularly will be nice, if emotional.
Ha. I’m looking at this from a different angle than everyone else, I think. With my first baby on the way, your post made me think, “Holy cow! I’d better do every single thing I’ve ever wanted to do RIGHT NOW!” And then I get queasy from the pregnancy and decide to just work at a reasonable pace.
My daughter started kindergarten this last week too. It’s funny how emotional the whole thing was. She was excited and raring to go, and Daddy was about to cry.
Brian - I didn’t even know you were a dad! Silly me - congrats!
Because the babies are growing up, it’s hard to see that happening. It awakens so many emotions, my son started fourth grade this year, I still cry on the first day of school.
He’s 10 and I can’t believe it. Where does the time go?
That takes me back - I used to be a kindergarten teacher, you kids look happy to go:)

I’ll be honest, I’m 22 and I have no idea what it feels like to to have your last kid start going to school. I’m sure you’ll get used to it like the others say. Soon you’ll be waiting impatiently for the little ones to go off to college (far far away hehe)
I simply cannot wait until the last of our children enters kindergarten. The problem for me is that our oldest just turned three, our middle child is just 15 months old, and our youngest child hasn’t been born yet.
My youngest started on Tuesday and I love the free time, but you’re right it’s just a bit sad to see her go.

I’m sorry you are sad, Wendy. I can feel your pain and yet it isn’t my youngest who is starting school. My son is only 4 and won’t start Kindergarten for another year. However, my only daughter, Hannah, will be starting Kindergarten tomorrow. She is so excited. She has been counting down all summer long to the amount of days she still has to wait until she starts Kindergarten. As I’m excited for her to begin school inside I’m already thinking of tomorrow morning. Tomorrow I will watch her step onto the school bus and she will begin a new exciting chapter in her life. She will be learning education from another adult that is not me, she will be playing with children that I haven’t yet met and she will be making choices without me by her side helping her with the options. She will succeed without me by her side 24/7.
I have another year until I am “free” as you are. However, when I read your post my stomach turned because I can only imagine how sad I too will be on that day.
I’m sure each day will be a bit less sad. Maybe you will be able to complete your daily business duties while your children are all at school and when they get home you will have more quality time with your children. That’s what I’m hoping for myself, as well.

As I type this Wendy, Thing 1 is sticking his feet into an empty cereal bowl while Thing 2 vacuums Kix off the carpet with her tiny mouth. *sniff* They grow too fast, dad gummit!
I feel for you Wendy. Noe’s only 10 months old, so she won’t be starting kindergarden for quite a while. But I DID just drop her off at her first fill day of day care today . . . and cried all the way home. Part of me is crushed by this first ‘big girl’ step to independence, and part of me is dancing a jig that I have eight uninterrupted hours of work. I’ll tell you, I’m constantly awed by what a roller coaster parenthood is.
Oh Lia, the first full day of day care is SO MUCH HARDER than the first day of school - that one took me weeks to get over - and honestly, was why I started my first business! I just couldn’t take it!

my eldest moved into his own apartment recently, when i hear pre-school or kindergarden I am right there with you because I still remember all of those first days just like they were yesterday. This event him ” leaving the nest ” felt alot like I was giving birth all over again - it was this monumental thing that you can hardly explain — and the feelings that come up are all over the place. He worked incredibly hard to make this move happen and was beside himself excited to the point of giddy-ness, like christmas morning giddy. This made me soooo happy for him and very proud. If anything that describes it the most

I feel the same way, and my youngest is in first grade this year. I should be over the whole by myself thing and be excited but I just never am.
Our youngest started 1st grade last week and I will now have Wednesdays to myself with both kids at school and my wife at work. Last week I celebrated by heading out to see the movie SuperBad, lol.
Enjoy the new free time but I suspect it will make you cherish the time with your kids even more!
LOL, I sent Elnora to pre-school yesterday for the first time. Thankfully it’s part of the drop-in day care center I use a few days a week for kid-free writing time, so I got to leave Emmitt in the attached center.
I’m counting the days until Emmitt goes to kindergarden. I mean I’m loving this time and am so glad I’m home, but the day he goes to kindergarden, I am either booking a day at the spa or coming home and going straight to bed.
Right on! I’m not a mom yet (still working on the wedding plans) but my friend is celebrating sending her two off to school this week - sounds great, right? It is - but she’s also 37 weeks pregnant! Ah well, such are the joys of a growing family!
Wendy I have been absent from your blog for awhile I am so freakin busy with school and Yaro’s BMM program. I don’t have time to miss my son while he is in school. I have two classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and one on Tuesday. I am carrying 14 hours this semester and working on two blogs. Oh and I have to help him with his homework now too. Anyone know how I can out source my life lol?
