Ah, my very last guest post over at ProBlogger today: Is Your Blog Template Holding You Back?

When I rolled out this site redesign, the completely unexpected and biggest bonus I got was a bump in SEO traffic - as in, a 300% bump in traffic!!

So I conducted an ‘internal investigation’ - and the ProBlogger post will help you determine if your blog template is putting the squeeze on the SEO juice to your site.

Plus, this week during the eMoms Birthday Party Contest, we’re giving away a free SEO optimized site redesign from Shazia Mistry! So you don’t even have to understand this stuff in order to get in on the action! :D

My design is definately holding me back. No matter how hard I try, I can’t make anything better. I guess I’m just stuck.

This advice is dead on. People who have successful sites are basically throwing money away because of inefficient templates.

I made similar changes to one of my sites ( http://code.mincus.com/35/why-your-successful-site-is-leaving-money-on-the-table/ and http://code.mincus.com/10/url-schema-change-effect-on-unique-hits/ ) and I saw a 400% increase in traffic!

I know my blog template is free but I’m waiting till I have a boost in some financial status to get a better custom template. But I think its part of problems sometimes but on the other hand some people just have sucky content.

Great post and interview Wendy!
I too saw dramatic and immediate jump in traffic and ranking due to my move to WordPress, customizing a free template, and applying basic SEO.

Amanda Chris’s Cutline templates are free within WordPress, and my template is from http://www.briangardner.com/
which is what I use, and so *happy* to see David of http://www.davidairey.com/blog/ uses it too…and he’s a Custom Designer–top-notch at it too :-)

Surprisingly, customizing a WP theme can be *very* economical. Look at my VA’s prices: http://www.blueridgevirtualassistance.com/

Please tell her I recommended her!

Peace-out!

Hey Wendy

Great post, Luckily for me I work for a web design firm so I havent had a lot of problems with the design itself, most of the challenges come from content.

So, a little off topic, but Prescott AZ is what connected us earlier today and I wanted to say hello. You have a LOT going on here at your blog. WOW! I’ll try to keep tabs on all of it and I’m sure I can learn a lot.

Coldy, windy, slim chance of rain today here. I love it!

I keep worrying about this. I know my site is clean, and for the most part uncluttered. But it’s not exactly how I want it. I just don’t have the time to get it right. Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

Mentions on other sites...
