Very nice one, you see many of us are so engrossed in doing so much of work that we forget ourselves and suddenly wake up in a world of depression and that is the bottom line. Good reminder for us to remind ourselves that we all need to do something that we all can enjoy.

Great article as always Dawud. You sure hit the nail right on the head with why I'm looking forward to working for me as well. The sunrises that I can take an extra 5 minutes to feel instead of just glimpse; the extra hot cup of coffee in the morning before I get to writing my next novel, and the realization that I have just a little more control than the guy or gal racing off to their corporate job.

Excellent imagery too. Thanks for the inspiration!

It's very easy to go outside and "smell the roses" but doing so often makes it harder to come back inside and do a task which needs doing, but that you can't get excited about.

Put your nose to the grindstone and get it done...then enjoy your free time.

(I, of course, ignore all advice which I dole out to others)

As I wrote about, I find taking those little few-minute vacations rewarding. Sure, not as much as 10 days backpacking in the mountains or swimming in the ocean, but I also can't backpack and ocean swim every day. I can slow down a bit and appreciate what's around me, though.

And trust me, I need to be reminded, too. And none better than my wife and kids.

Thanks for the great reminder. I just started working at home (though not yet for myself). I didn't know the distractions could be so powerful.

I'm learning how to focus. And that means not being on my laptop during all my waking hours.

I took two days off at the beginning of the week. I worked hard last week and just felt tired.

I took the kids out and we played. It was nice. I get like that sometimes where I don't want to turn on the computer at all.

Then I get my mojo back. :)

Thanks for this amazing post, Dawud. It was the first blog post I read today and I am so glad it was. Thank you, once again, for bringing me back to earth and reminding me what is truly important. And, why it is that I decided to work out of my home in the first place.

As always it is a pleasure reading your work.

Thanks for the reminders Dawud. I got one of the best affirmations this week that I made the right choice by working from home. My 11 year old told me (out of the blue) that he was so glad I that I worked from home, because I am always here to take them to school, pick them up, visit the school, and help them whenever they need it. It made my heart melt...

AGG! You hit a nerve. I go through phases where I start getting so excited about my business and spend more time than necessary working on it and thinking about it. I need to slow down. A three day weekend would seem to be the ideal place to start, but I have a client meeting on Monday! I will fit in some pool time with my family!

It's been a while since I slowed down. And in just a few weeks it's going to get worse and I'll have to cut from my sleeping period to promote the game that I'm launching.
I would never work this much for someone else, but since this is my life and my business, I'm doing more work then I thought I was capable.
Maybe next year I'll be able to take a break and go to Venice if the game takes off :).
Looking up might seem a good idea when you're self employed, but working my ass off and being able to visit another country next year seems even better.
