It’s the first Monday after Daylight Savings, and I bet you are a little sleepy this morning…. *yawn*. Top that off with a little Spring Fever [61 degrees in Chicago today!!!], and we have a recipe for a highly unproductive day.
So here’s how it works:
- Commit to getting something done today. It can be one thing, it can be a lot of things. Just make it public by posting it on your blog or in the comments below.
- Then put some leverage in place. You can either lay down consequences or work toward a reward. Do whatever will motivate you more.
For example, today I will:
- Follow up with my SOAP buddies
- Clean out my inbox again (I knocked out over 300 last week and I’m back up to 180+!!!
) - Clean out voicemails from home phone number
- Send Karen her interview info for her thesis
I really want to add more to this, but last week I committed to too much and didn’t get to bed until 1:30am. But if I don’t complete these things before I go to bed tonight, I will hand wash and vacuum my husband’s car every week for the next month.

I await it with eagerness! LOL. You make me laugh.
Actually I got kinda trapped in the Mr. Linky entry boxes … whatever that is … and noted a very “not so smart” thing. It asks you to leave you URL and then baulks with a message saying, “Your URL must begin with http ….
Hello, who types the http:// in front of their URL when they don’t have to as dictated by programmers who aren’t user oriented. The applet or whatever it is already _knows_ what needs to be there, so … prepend it, dad gumb it!
Now, back to the comment I wanted to leave … there’s a very interesting choice right up in your first “organization block” … I love the layout idea, by the way, alleging to lead to Article Submission Guidelines. It appears to be broken.
Great post, I love the ending. Too bad I caught it a bit too late. I can still do it for tomorrow though. Hmm.. My goal tomorrow is to win 1 million dollars and if I don’t, I will be penalized with a chocolate cake!
Dave, Although I’m not quite sure I follow your words, I can say that earlier today I put up a ‘post’ that was supposed to be a ‘page’. So I deleted the post and put the page here:

Does that get rid of your confusion?
Here’s a tip Wendy, once you commit to “getting something done today” set aside 20 minute and put your whole self into it for that long.
At one point I got backlogged and couldn’t even face some things. But by actually doing for a short time like 20 minutes, something happened and it really made me feel good - so I would do another bite sized piece next day.
I’m new to monday motivation - so what you do is name something you don’t want to do (i.e. wash husbands car) if you don’t get everything you need to done.
Can users submit tasks for you to do for them if you don’t get your things done? You know - for motivation?
Wendy - yesterday was moving at such a pace that I never even got to post my Monday Motivation. However, I have a FULL day in the office ahead of me with minimal interruptions so I am going to post my list today. One of the things on my list is to get my guest post for your blog to you - it’s half way done.
Either wash the dishes or generate more ad revenue for my network.
Okay, so I can do both - just gotta plan it somehow hehe.
DO IT NOW NOW NOW. There ya go - if you need any motivation!

@ Robyn - Yes, I have to chunk like that for the stuff I’ve avoided for a long time. Thankfully, I don’t think I have any big projects like that hanging over my head anymore - but I certainly had to use that approach when I was still unpacking boxes 6 months after we moved!
@ Char - No worries on being late - if it works for you even three days later, at least it works!

Now I’m catching up with my Monday chores by Thursday AM my time, but hey at least I am doing them.
I left you a post that was too cryptic, verbose, or both and you answered with the part I needed anyway, thanks.
I was looking for contributor guidelines … I still don’t see that link working on your home page. Your web designers work is lovely … but you or s/he should do some usability testing. In your four big navigation logos when one sees a logo that says “Read”: one expects to click on it and start reading the blog. Instead you have to look through a list of current posts … luckily I remembered it was Monday, or try to figure out what category the post should be under. Just a small point.
The part of my post that was very confusing was the reference to something you had popping up called “Mr. Linky” I believe.
It was/is intrusive
Confusing … why was it asking for my URL and what did it propose to link it to?
And dumb … asking people to provide their URL and then rejecting them because they didn’t prepend their URL with “http://” is sooo not 2007.
I didn’t see it today, so perhaps it’s gone forever.
Hope this is more clear, thanks for writing and for reading my rambles.
