I had a conversation with my cousin’s wife over the weekend about my blog - she said that she reads it, gets all motivated to do something with her blog, then can never find the time to actually do it. (Well, she does have a good reason, 4 boys plus one if you count my cousin *winks*).
But this is probably the third or fourth time I have heard this - and that’s SO not what I want people to experience around here. It’s nice to shoot for the stars, but even a trip to the heavens starts with just getting yourself up in the air two feet.
So let’s make things easy.
Pick one thing today, and do it.
It doesn’t matter if it is big or small - you don’t need to stretch yourself like I do (probably more than I should, sometimes), and I don’t care if it is work or fun - just pick one thing and get it done by the time you go to sleep tonight.
So here’s the Monday Motivation scoop:
Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today.
Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.
Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is a particularly great motivator, but throw down consequences if you really need a kick in the pants to get stuff done!
Usually I lead by example and I should be putting only one thing on my own to do list today - but I have one thing I MUST add in order to make today the best it can possibly be:
- Clean out my inbox of 173 emails
- Enjoy my 39th Birthday with all of you
If I don’t do this by the time I go to bed tonight, I will be forced to celebrate my birthday tomorrow, too (ROFL)!
So what are you going to get done today?

Happy Birthday, Wendy!
Happy Birthday Wendy!! Here’s to a fabulous day.
Happy Birthday Wendy!
One thing I did today was write note cards to all of the people I met at the Tech Cocktail networking event in Chicago a few weeks back, as I wrote on my blog:

I am also working on whittling down the low-hanging fruit from my to-do list.

One thing??!!! I’m feeling ambitious and behind so I think I’ll pick two - updating my newsletter emailing list and sending a new set of articles to my web programmer for publication.
Thanks Wendy and it looks like it’s your B-Day! Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Wendy.
You are so right, I always tell clients it’s all about small steps, targets you can achieve, at least that way you can achieve something and feel positive.
By the way, 173 emails, are you collecting them for something? Currently I only have 63 in my in box and only 18 are now unread.
Jason
PS I will own up, until the weekend I have several hundred sat there (most where read!), I did a bit of email house keeping, it just takes so long though!
I have about 30 pictures to upload and place on my freelance project and have had the please don’t make me attitude about it all day. So that’s got to be done by 4. Period.
or ? I won’t get the dog out on schedule - not a great consequence but if the schedule is off - it’s off - ya know?
Have a delicious Birthday Wendy
and lets schedule that coffee
doesn’t every effort to get yourself out there take time? I say blogging is aggressive and 21st century - placing ads in the newspaper is passive, expensive and ordinary - not to mention how do you really measure success ?
Right now blogging is intangible but in a very positive way - I can give it an hour a day.

Oh my goodness,Wendy! Happy, happy birthday!
I am definitely getting a big thing off of my to-do list today, as I’m in the waiting room of the medical center having just taken that “orange soda” drink for my gestational diabetes test. I’ve been putting it off forever!
Also, does it count as “obsessive” or just “really bored” when you find yourself commenting on a blog via your phone?
I am like your sister-in-law who always reads your blog and gets super amped to do something then it just fizzles out as I lose track of time. About a month ago I finally got motivated, thanks to your blog, to start my own little place on the blogosphere. So my goal for today will be to post something new on both my blogs today and then finish that scarf I’ve been knitting for the past 2 months!
Have a fabulous birthday!
Happy Birthday, Wendy!
Here’s hoping you have a party that’s as fun as you are.
My one thing - pick out one idea from the dozens floating in my head and form it into a pithy online PR blog post [or two].
Thanks so much everyone! You have definitely helped me to accomplish #2 on my list! (Now to tackle #1!
)
I’m Done! Thanks for the continued motivation each week. It really helps me stay on track!
ps. I just realized I’m 6 days older than you! Happy Birthday to both of us!
Happy Birthday Wendy - and welcome to 39. Ill be there with you for 9 more months, then, well, I don’t even want to think about it. My thing to do today is to go to bed before 11 pm, so - goodnight. Hope you had a wonderful day!
Happy Birthday, Wendy!
Hey Happy Birthday Wendy!
I hope you had a lovely day and that you were spoilt rotten. Well done for achieving soooo much this year. I know that next ones are going to be just as amazing
OXO
Happy 39th Wendy! I would have noticed sooner if we hadn’t also had a birthday in the family here yesterday.
Happy Belated Birthday Wendy! I hope you had a great day!
Ok, so I’m late!
Happy belated birthday. Hope it was great!
Today, I am going to do rough drafts of all the posts I need to do for the weekend, because this weekend contains a pa day at my daughter’s school, so I’ll be extra busy at home.
If I don’t do it, I won’t have anything for anyone to read on my blog.
Plus, Thursday is my daughter’s birthday, and if I don’t get those rough drafts done today, I’ll not be eating any birthday cake.
Gotta get working on that stuff now!
