Teresa - Great article. I, too, was one of those who said - Twitter?? But I do like the social aspect of it and it's a great way to advertise a sale/special on my website too.

I am following you on twitter - primnpurdy.

Have a Great day!

Twitter is much more than just a communication tool.

Is you combine it with summize.com, you suddenly have a powerful tool.

Summize.com searches all tweets. Say you are a virtual assistent. You can enter the words virtual assistent in summize and every time some say that, it updates.

You can even add summize.com to your feed reader and keep track of various key words that way.

I use that for several blogs. That way I always know whats happening in various topics.

A few minutes after the earthquake in LA I did a quick search on summize using "earthquake" within a few minutes there were a 1000+ tweets. A good way to keep track of what happened.

I avoided twitter for a very long time. Now that I am using it, I think that it has the potential to be very useful.

I too was hesitant about Twitter for a while. I think one of my main problems was I configured the system to send me a text message from one person in particular. That (mistake) let me know I didn't really want to have much to do with that person. You live and learn.

Hi Teresa - This is good to know. I joined Twitter but have barely used it yet. Like you, I worried that it would be a huge time waster.

But, reviews like this are encouraging and I'm going to spend a bit more time on there. Thanks.

I have had a Twitter account for a little while now, perhaps a few months. I have a lot of followers but almost all of them seem to be internet marketers. Probably because I follow well known internet marketer John Reese.
Anyway as far as being followed goes it doesn't matter who it is since it's more traffic and exposure for my business. It's a good thing.

Yeah, twitter is a good online social networking site. Could give you good traffic. And many would follow you and many would be a permanent visitor or read. Best of luck in your blogging.

I've avoided Twitter up until now but have finally relented this week and have started an account and signed up to follow others working in the Internet Marketing space.

I don't expect it to be a traffic magnet, rather a neat way to keep track of my colleagues and partners.

Even this early on I find myself dealing with two issues:

1) How not to be overwhelmed by the number of incoming tweets

2) What is an appropriate portion of time to spend on Twitter each day/week?

I'd be interested in others' thoughts on these topics.

Thanks,

Dex

Thanks Teresa :)
Having a GOAL before hand really is something we should all define before we start using a new social media service. It defines how we use the service and gives a point of reference for evaluating the use f our time down the road ;) I agree with Wendy completely.

I love Twitter - it's definitely an adjustment to post only 140 characters, but I love the water-cooler feel of checking the tweets and seeing what people are up to (@halosecretarial if anyone is interested)!
