Social Media is definitely becoming more important and widely used in online marketing campaigns. We are in a digital world! Social Media has brought us close together.

Something else to consider in this "election social media" post... the SEO/PPC efforts of each campaign. If you look at any of the "hot topics" of the campaign (tax issues, etc), Obama's camp were right on there with the PPC efforts. McCain's... not so much.

I am not endorsing any Presidential candidate but like you, I am also fascinated to Obama’s keen intuition about social media. He created a buzz and more people noticed him because of his online campaign strategies.

I'm glad I read this, now I think I know how to make my blog more popular...

Regarding the Obama team, they used the grass roots campaign strategy which I was a part of in the 70's when you went to bowling alley, fireman days, kissed the babies, and shook hands with everyone on the street. Then they were bright enough to embrace technology, and run as fast as they could to keep information and energy flowing.

I support McCain, however,I respect the success of the money and results of the Obama campaign. It's a lesson we all need to understand.

Great post Wendy..I'm so glad I caught it.

This provides an interesting twist - is the blogosphere for the Dems the answer to conservative talk radio?

It's definitely made information (either helpful or misleading) more accessible. I do not own a TV set and I am usually at work when the debates took place so I couldn't really listen to the radio either. Without these videos on the internet, I wouldn't have been able to watch them.

I live in California, so it probably doesn't make a difference in my case, but I'm sure the impact will be shown somewhere else.

Wonderful article. I've been following the election these past few months not just as a voter with my own personal preferences, but also from a marketing perspective.

The key for politicans, or even business owners for that matter, is to embrace the new technology. Barack did that so well by using all of the major tools available to him, including Twitter, and using them to the full potential.

It's impossible not to use these things anymore. Only if you accept them and start feeding things out that you want people to see and read will you find success. The key is to stay on top of things and use them regularly. It doesn't matter if you receive negative or positive comments, the important thing is to stay active. If you can answer immediately, and provide your own thoughts, people will be able to form their own opinions.
