Almost exactly a year ago, I hired Sarah Lewis to redesign eMoms at Home. I really needed a custom theme, and didn’t realize all of the benefits that having a custom theme would provide this site until I hired her. Among other obvious marketing/branding benefits, the not-so obvious benefits were the nearly instant increase in search engine traffic that I started to receive when we rolled out the new theme.

Obviously, my site has evolved quite a bit since Sarah and I did this project together - I’ve changed it from a one-woman show to a network, reworked advertising, and eMoms at Home doesn’t look at all like it did one year ago. So Sarah and I decided to release my theme to the WordPress blogging community.

Some of the great benefits of the eMoms Legacy 1.0 Theme:

  • Built for display advertising - with an options page to add your ad code easily

Ad units included:

Medium 300×250 or Large 336×280 Rectangle at the top of the sidebar - Best for ad network ads or self-promotion (newsletter signup, your ‘banana’ secton)

Standard 468×60 banner units between posts on the front page and archive/search/category pages - Best for Google AdSense ads or affiliate ads, text or banners

Medium 300×250 or Large 336×280 Rectangle between single posts and comment box - Best for AdSense Ads (my highest CTR spot on the site)

  • Excellently optimized for search engines
  • Widget Ready
  • Support tags
  • A handy spot to display a great motivational quote ;)

I’ll do a little bit of blatant promotion here and mention that while it’s fantastic to use a theme that works well with high functionality and some great features, it’s even better to personalize the looks and image to reflect your own customized needs.

And that’s exactly what we offer. We can take the eMoms theme and gear it to just what you need.

Good on you, Wendy, to release your theme for download. I’m sure many people would love to have a theme like this and making it accessible is a nice gesture.

Well done Wendy! I’ve been watching for a while now, and you’ve come along great! :D

Wendy its so nice to see what someone else is doing and the results as well. I think most of us agree the most important parts of our sites is traffic.

Sharing this information is important hope the bloggers agree. We’ve had great success with a tip from a blogger called the entrecard support@entrecard.com its added a lot of traffic to my site in the last few weeks. If I’ve given the wrong symbols..because I am so dumb to date with these things, let me know and I’ll have David my site person send to a link. I swear when I get stronger he’s coming over and going to begin to show me how not to be so out of touch with reality on the computer. I need a guide unless I’m writing….

So thanks for sharing….

A great theme! Thank you very much for sharing it.

I’m sure releasing a theme will bring additional traffic to the eMom network.

I downloaded the theme. It doesnot seems to contain any information on how it is licensed… is it under GPL?

Wow Wendy, this is really weird. I’ve been thinking about the post your wrote when you changed to this theme and about how your traffic increased since your (then new) theme was SEO optimized. I’ve been considering biting the bullet and purchasing a theme but perhaps I’ll see what I could do to customize your’s a little.

Thanks very much Wendy!! :)

@Bhumika: Thanks for spotting this oversight! I’ve added the GPL notice and re-uploaded it (no other changes).
