Three All Important Questions for You

Three super important questions I pose to you this weekend…

How Many Mornings Do You Wake Up Excited?

Children and brides know what it means to wake up thrilled to face the day, but what about the rest of us?

I don’t think it’s realistic to expect every morning to be like Christmas, summer break or our wedding day – but shouldn’t there be something shiny and enticing about most of our days?

Since becoming an full time entrepreneur, I can honestly say that I get out of bed with positive anticipation way more often not.

How Many Days Do You Spend Doing Things That You Enjoy?

I remember when I worked in a true ‘corporate’ environment.  Most of the day I spent glancing at the clock, always wishing it were closer to five o’clock PM than it was.

Then there was the night job.  Most of the night I spent wishing it were closer to seven o’clock AM than it was.

Don’t even get me started on friends and family. I have a sibling who has hated his job pretty much every minute since he took it twenty years ago.

How Many Nights Do You Fall Asleep Content?

Is your sleep sweet?

I’m not just asking if your bed is comfortable… though I do feel that a quality bed is THE most important item of furniture in your house followed closely by a great home office chair (of course) and comfortable dining room chairs (sit long – talk much).

I’m asking if your head hits the pillow with pleasant dreams soon to follow – or do you lay awake worrying about tomorrow?

What you don’t deal with during the day, you’ll deal with at night – one way or another.  Tossing and turning, fitful dreams – waking up tense and tired.

I know the value of a good night’s sleep – mostly because for many years I didn’t get one.

Why Do I Ask These Questions?

Some people don’t like to be asked tough questions like this.  They don’t like to be confronted with a reminder that they have the ability to choose whether they will enjoy their life.  They prefer to wallow, whine and rage against the machine as if they live lives in helpless captivity.

What about you?  Do you realize you have the ability to choose?

Do you realize that you can make choices today that lead to a more enjoyable tomorrow?

For several years I was miserably unhappy as a homeowner but felt home ownership was a badge of true adulthood and one of those magical keys to financial stability.  One day I realized I was suffering for an ideal that I didn’t even hold as an ideal.  I sold the house and have been a very happy apartment dweller since.

I think it’s crucially important to ask ourselves tough questions.

  • Why do we do what we do?
  • What are we working so hard for?
  • Are we trading in long hours for extras our kids would gladly give up for more time with us?
  • Are you working really hard to be someone you don’t even like?
  • Are you kissing an ass you don’t even respect?

We’re in charge of our mornings, our days and our nights.  The sooner we realize just how very in charge we are, the sooner we’ll start taking actions that make us happier

Good, thought provoking questions.

I’ll say that losing my job was the best thing that ever happened to me – though the lack of money was not. It gave me a chance to connect with my 1 year old son in a way I had not done before when I was working nonstop late into the night.

Nice article. A real wake me up.

It’d be very interesting to run a poll of 100 random people to see what their answers would be to these questions and explore it a little more.

Great article Kelly. It’s easy to forget that we have choices and that what’s good for one is not necessarily good for us.

What a great post. I am happy to say that I now wake up excited most days, looking forward to doing work that I enjoy. It wasn’t always like this for me and I’m proud of myself for making it happen. The next step is to try to help other people do the same thing. It really is possible if you’re willing to answer the tough questions and take action based on your responses!

Leave it to Kelly to truly lay it on the line as it is.

What a great and very important post for everyone to truly think about.

More often than not, I wake up positive and ready to tackle what the day has in store for me. I try to arm myself with a positive attitude and a smile.

Your last paragraph really brings it all home for me! Thanks Kelly!

I love the way I’m working now, and honestly I’ve been longing for this job since I was like 12 years old or so. As a radio broadcaster I don’t even need to kiss somebody’s ass. So if you ask me, Kelly, how many days I spend doing things I enjoy, the answer would be: EVERY SINGLE DAY EVEN WHEN I’M WORKING.

This is a great post! You are right, so many people do not realize they have the ability to choose. I remember when I was working for this one company I hated it and so did everyone else that worked there. I found my self complaining just like they did, but I realized I didn’t want to be like them where I complained about something and didn’t change it. So I left. Best thing I ever did. Most days I wake up excited, because I get to work on my business. I feel that each day is one day closer to me being an entrepreneur. Every day I do something I enjoy, from blogging, to growing my business, coaching women to live there life just the way they want it, spending time with my husband, kids, etc. There are some points of the day where I don’t enjoy what I’m doing, but every day is a day spent on things that I enjoy. Most nights I go to bed content, except for when I didn’t finish a product or I have a new idea.

These are very important questions to ask yourself. Too many times we spend out life living and ideal that doesn’t really match with our personal ideal. It’s time to live our life for us and no one else.

I just love getting up in the morning. I love it so much that if there is any light at all coming in the room when I open my eyes, I can’t get back to sleep. (Not a great trait to have when it’s a full moon!) Each day, I can’t wait to get to my desk. I love working while the rest of the world is asleep.

I believe loving being in business keeps me uplifted most of the time. Sure, there are tasks that I don’t like…but I love that each day is filled with what I put on the schedule
