Just remember that you are probably in a better position than some other families who lost everything. Did the whole Hurricane Katrina thing here. Imagine if the hotels didn't have electricity? Imagine if there was nowhere to go? What would you do then? At least stock up on the right supplies for the next time. I wrote a long post detailing what I learned after the Katrina experience. (Search for emergency preparedness list at my blog linked above).
