I would love to develop a tip of the day series for increasing blog traffic… hopefully I can consistently come up with new ideas! But today I have a good one: Quote the Wall Street Journal.
Yesterday, I found a WSJ article and it related to a previous post on the Friendster Patent. I also noticed that at the bottom of the article, there was this nifty new little widget that offered links via Technorati to blog posts that referenced the article. Hhmmm, I thought, I would certainly like to have them put a link to MY blog here! So I added a post (let me state the obvious – a RELEVANT post to both the WSJ and my blog!!!), and then went about my day – a good traffic day on the blog, but I was working on some other publicity efforts, so didn’t really know why the day was going so well.
Then I looked at my traffic stats this morning. I was happily surprised – that little link to the WSJ was the single largest traffic referrer to my site (not counting people typing in my URL). Check it out!!

Sadly today, the WSJ has no articles that are really relevant to my blog. But I have also just subscribed to many of their RSS feeds so that I can catch newsworthy articles right away and blog about them fast. In fact, if you read the comment on this post, my blogging friend The Everyday Economist adds another layer to make this an easy and effective process.
Happy TrafficJolt-ing!
