Last year, a regular reader and commenter told me she had been laid off while she was pregnant. Instead of wallowing in her misery, she decided to take it as an opportunity to start freelancing. In that moment I had an idea - and my gut just told me to GO WITH IT. So I asked Lorna Doone Brewer to write a blog for my soon-to-be-launched network.
Little did I realize that my request actually netted me another talented writer, her business partner Tamara Berry. And little did I know how lucky I was that they said yes!
I <3 Lorna & Tamara from Freelance Parent.
Want to know what their first year of freelancing has been like? Here’s 365 freelancing days in less than 8 really enjoyable minutes. –>
I saw some really wonderful people mentioned in here - Harrison & James from Men with Pens, Naomi Dunford, Laura Spencer, Melissa Donovan, Genesis Davies, and Kristen King.
Congratulations on your first year in business, Lorna & Tamara - I hope we get lots more of those together - it’s been an honor to work with you! ![]()

easily one of my favorite blogs and two of my fave broads. lol.
Thanks so much, Wendy. We truly do believe that Freelance Parent, and the opportunity you gave us to be part of the Sparkplugging network, has made all the difference in the world as far as our success. Plus, it’s been fun.
Ah, it’s a lovefest!
The video celebration at Freelance Parent was fantastic! I’m always delighted when my RSS reader lights up with a Berry-Brewer, but this was an extra special treat. Thank you for the honorable mention.
I join you in congratulating Lorna & Tamara on their first year. That’s quite accomplishment and I know that they’ve both learned a lot from the experience.
Great video!

Thanks for the link.
I’m so glad you “netted” yourself these two writers. They’re delightful, and so are you.
