I haven’t been feeling the Follow Friday vibe much lately but I posted one today:
This after I received an affiliate sale notification from her program. There’s something pretty inspiring about earning $150 in commission, wouldn’t you agree?
There’s no doubt I love what I do and make a good living at it. One of the greatest things about being an internet business entrepreneur is that there are no limits – and right now, I’m focusing in on that because I’ve decided it’s time to make more money. (And I know I can do it!)
I remember when I first started my online business. I just wanted to make a couple hundred dollars a month. Time and experience certainly raised my expectations. I paid off my debts, left my day job and have enjoyed freedoms I once only dreamed of.
If that sounds like a sales letter testimonial, I apologize
It’s not meant to – it’s what really happened for me.
What you need to understand though is that the ‘freedoms’ I’ve enjoyed – are pretty relative. For a single mom who struggled paying the bills for more than fourteen years, just being able to pay them and not worry is a big freedom. Add in some gadgets and fun and I felt rich! What can I say? I’m easy to please.
At least I have been.
Talking in real numbers, I’ve earned between $30,000 and $45,000 a year over the last three. Less when I was focused on helping family out and more when I was more focused on building my business. I’m not talking these numbers down – I’m proud of them! But I know I can do better.
And now I want to.
That’s the key isn’t it? Being an entrepreneur is about pursuing your goals and dreams. Some people dream perfectly wonderful small dreams and when they are achieved, feel fabulous. I’ve felt great about my accomplishments so far and quite satisfied with the resulting income.
But lately, I’ve been dreaming about more.
I want to do some more things for me. I want to travel more and drive a nicer car. I want to do more to secure my financial future.
I’m driving up to Gaylord this weekend to look at a vacation house to rent for the next nine months because I’d like to split my schedule between here and there and enjoy more down time.
It sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?
I know I can make everything I want happen if I want it bad enough. With the right projects and focused attention, anything really is possible.
The only problem is that I almost seem to be dreaming at cross purposes with myself. On one hand, I want to have more great down time in a furnished lake house on Otsego Lake. On the other hand, to get that, I have to work harder and make more money.
Rethink that… I don’t have to work harder – I have to work smarter.
(Something @aliceseba has taught me a lot about over the years.)
Again, with an internet business – there are no limits. My websites work for me 24 hours a day. I wake up every morning to sales notices, both from my own products and from my recommendations for others – most of it is now very passive in nature. (I created some projects years ago and continue to earn well from them.) If I want to make more money – I just have to create smart new projects and give older projects an artful nudge.
With my years of experience, and a mind open to how our industry is constantly changing, I know I can make my new dreams come true.
I’ve decided that between now and the end of the year I’ll put a lot of focus on affiliate marketing. Why? Because as an affiliate, I can earn money from products I don’t have to take the time to create.
Like today, when I earned $150 from Alice. She created the product, I just had to recommend it to my list and voila: one fourth of the cash I need for a deposit on my lake house
Now to do that again and again and again, right?
Time to Amp It Up!
I’m taking Jimmy D. Brown’s Affiliatenaire course. I signed up a few months back when it first launched and have been tucking the lessons away in my gmail account – sounds like now is the perfect time to pull them out and put them to good use. Jimmy always inspires me and his learning programs are easy to follow. I’ve taken his Membernaire course in the past to learn more about running paid membership programs and have since launched two successful fixed term membership programs.
My first goal is to add $1000 to my monthly income. Then, to reach a regular goal of $10,000 per month.
Anybody want to join me in boosting their affiliate income? Would love to hear from those who are focusing on the same things right now.

Thanks Kelly for that uplifting post. I’ve been making a decent living, relatively speaking, online for the past ten years, but now feel it is time to up my game in the AM arena. I have already started revamping existing sites and adding new ones. I love the freedom that AM and IM allows and as I get older, I can’t think of any other way to make a living, apart from music of course…:) Thanks again and I look forward to your posting from the vacation house…:) All the best.

This comes at sort of an appropriate time. I have been thinking about how I can make a little extra money online. I am not really a writer – at least not enough to make money. I am no good at graphic design…So, I have been thinking about my “place” online. Had sort of decided on affiliate marketing, but wasn’t sure where to start. Thanks for giving me that last little “nudge”!!
Yes Kelly, I am ready to bump up my AM efforts. It surely is a fun way to make money. I have also been updating all of my sites/blogs for better affiliate marketing performance.
I love this part
“I know I can make everything I want happen if I want it bad enough. With the right projects and focused attention, anything really is possible”.
Thanks for being such an inspiration.
Wow! – Kelly, you are so inspiring and I loved reading this post.
Loved this quote:
“With my years of experience, and a mind open to how our industry is constantly changing, I know I can make my new dreams come true.”
Way to go, and I can’t wait to hear the next step in your adventures!
I really need to stretch bigger too.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Diana
Update: I rented a lake house this weekend
Gonna be enjoying as much of it as I can over the next nine months!
@Lyle I will definitely be doing some blogging from the porch on the lake house rental! I can’t wait!
@Laura Glad to be nudging you!
@Robin I can’t wait to hear about your results
@Diana We’ll stretch together!
Kelly, thanks for the uplifting post and the link to Tony Robbins’ video with John Reese and Frank Kern this weekend. It made me realize that I’m in the ‘comfortable’ place, kind of a no man’s land, my back’s not ‘up against the wall’ so I don’t have to push forward unless I want to. That causes me to fade in and out when it comes to my internet marketing dealings. The video was a real eye-opening and motivating moment for me.
Congrats on your lake house, I know you’ll enjoy it so much. It’s great to see you succeed and watch you push your career. I’ll be here watching and hopefully your commitment will rub off on me as well.

I’m a complete dork, Kelly – but, this post made me tear up. It has been such a joy and INSPIRATION to watch your journey. To watch a real woman go from “cubicle life” to making it on her own – what I consider to be real money – has meant more to me than I can tell you. Sure, it’s cool to watch the Frank Kern’s and the John Reese’s and learn from them. But your REAL STORY has meant mountains more to me. I thank you for sharing so much of it openly with us!
This is something I’ve been working on too. I’ve had $5000 months and months where I struggle to break $1000. Guess which I’d like to see more often!
Kelly, I just came across your site. Thanks for sharing your online success! I’ve been blogging for about 4 years and I just made my first $1000 with affiliate marketing in a niche that I love. I would love to increase my online income to $5000 a month and leave my cubicle behind.
Thanks again for the inspiration!
Andrea
Go, Kelly! That is AWESOME! I know you can do it! (and by posting this, you are inspiring us, and motivating us to get off our butts, too!)
High five for dreaming bigger! I know you can reach those goals. I have two new websites and my goal for each one of them is $10,000 per month. After crunching numbers I know it can happen. It’ll just take time and dedication.
Nell
I love this post
I think my first real goal with affiliate marketing was $60k/year. I’d been doing affiliate marketing since the late 90’s but only on the side and “actively” vs for passive income. The year I set that goal, I met it.
I got comfortable there for a year or two – which is easy to do. I could really relate to some of your points. Like you, I’m a single mom and my two biggest priorities in life are my son and my daughter.
When I decided I was ready to take it up a notch, I just did. And it was that second go-round that really made me realize that the power was in my hands. That anytime I wanted something I simply had to define it, and then make it happen. What a beautiful thing!
The key of course is balance – which is something you and I have in common. Money & Goals can never get in the way of the true purpose. Fortunately internet/affiliate marketing affords us the luxury of that balance.
Congrats to you for taking action, and for going out there and getting what you want! Enjoy the lakehouse
-Lynn Terry
Goodness, for me, it would be nice just to be able to reach $200 a month right now, though that long term goal of $3,000 or more a month is pretty good also. I think you’re doing fabulous stuff, and the fact that you want to be even better is impressive also. Good luck.
Hi Kelly!
I just found this site and read your post. I started, for the very fist time, to develop a website 2 weeks ago. I still have a very long way to go (I only have 16 pages, a template design, etc, etc)and your post has already given me inspiration.
I haven’t blogged in my life or RSS’d so I need to add those to the list of things to learn pdq.
I am looking forward to making my very first $1.
cheers
Congrats, Ruth! Sounds like you’re taking some great action getting that site together
