Being a dad is pretty damn cool - most of the time anyways. There is something special about the bond between a father and his child that can sometimes be lost in the hectic world of work and every day life.
Just when you start to lose sight of this bond, you’ll share a moment with your child where you realize just how much it rocks to be a dad. Times like these are something extra special, life-changing perhaps.
1. You get to be there for your child as they conquer their fears.
Point number 9 is my fave at the moment, for me at home with a 3yr old especially, as you can imagine.
Those eureka moments for such a young and innocent soul are really indescribable. Watching her expression when she gets a new concept, almost like a “click”..
Even as a brand-new dad, I’m hitting on a lot of these points already. I get such a subtle thrill out of watching our little guy’s mental wheels spin when he’s really focused on some puzzling new toy or challenging activity.
Being a dad does rock! I love seeing my kids experience things for the first time, and I encourage them to take measured risks. My wife worries that I allow them to take too many risks, but to me, there is nothing like seeing the wheels turning in their head when overcoming a fear and just jumping right into something.

Great post Derek!
My boys are young men now, and like everyone says - where did the time go.
Enjoy them young and even though we don’t do it perfect, it’s interesting to see how some things stick with them.
It’s truely a joy to see them grow and come into their potential as adults.
