About Derek Semmler and Dad Balance

Hi there, my name is Derek Semmler and I’d like to welcome you to Dad Balance.

What is Dad Balance?
Dad Balance is your resource for tips, advice and discussions for working Dads trying to find a healthy balance between their career and their family.

There are numerous books and websites dedicated to the working mother and how a mother can balance a successful career and family at the same time. Unfortunately there are far fewer such resources for the working father even though there are more and more fathers that are working from home, staying home to raise their children or otherwise devoting more attention to their families.

With Dad Balance, I hope to provide you with a destination where you will find information for dads provided by dads. The next time you find yourself with a question surrounding work-life balance, come on over and see if it has already been answered. If it hasn’t been answered, please leave a comment and I will do my best to address your question as you can be sure there are other dads asking the same question.

Is Dad Balance only for dads?
While the focus will be on the trials and tribulations of dads trying to find a healthy work-life balance, I encourage everyone and anyone to become a part of the community.

Whether you are a dad or not, I think you will find information here at Dad Balance that can help you in your quest to achieve work-life balance. In addition, I feel that there is much to be learned from you as well and sincerely hope you will be a part of Dad Balance.

Who is Derek Semmler?
As much as I would like to tell you a great story of fame and fortune, I am an average American man that is doing my best to provide for my family and enjoy life along the way.

I’ve got two fantastic (most of the time) boys, ages 8 and 6, and am married to a truly outstanding woman. Professionally, I am a Senior Software Engineer by day and aspiring entrpreneur by night. As you can see, my schedule is pretty full and as a result I have learned a few things about finding work-life balance that I will be sharing with you.

Outside of Dad Balance, you can find me blogging about life at my personal blog, Derek Semmler dot com. You can also find me blogging about one of my passions, personal finance and money management, over at My New Choice.

Hopefully that answers some of your questions about Dad Balance and provides a little insight into my background. If you have any questions, comments or features that you would like to see, please let me know.

Thanks for being a part of Dad Balance!

About Dad Balance Contests and Giveaways

Frequently Asked Questions:

“May I see the Official Contest Rules?”
Sure.

“What if I violate the Official Contest Rules?”
Then you don’t win the prize. For example: If the random number generator chooses your comment, but then I see you have entered the same contest more than once — even accidentally — then I will choose another winner. So enter contests carefully! Make sure you only enter once!

“Do you have a winner’s list?”
Absolutely.

“What determines a random winner?”
I use Integer Generator to choose winner(s) of random drawings.

“How many times can I win a contest on your site?”
Currently there is no limit, but that is subject to change in the future. Check back here for the latest answer.

“What if you can’t reach the winner?”
Winners will have 7 days to send me their Legal Name, Mailing Address, Date of Birth, Day and Evening Phone Numbers. If that doesn’t happen, at the discretion of eMoms at Home, I either choose a second-chance winner, save the prize for use in a future contest, or inform the sponsor that there will be no prize awarded.

“Why are your contests US-only?”
Due to the complexity of sweepstakes law and US laws, as well as the fact that we don’t have a huge legal team, this is the way we have chosen to structure the contests on this site. It is unfortunate but in this world of lawyers and laws we feel this is the best option.
