How To Be An NFL All Pro Dad

“Coaching the Indianapolis Colts is a big job, but not nearly as big a job as being a dad…”
– Tony Dungy, Head Coach, Indianapolis Colts

Earlier today I came across a news story that mentioned Tony Dungy and his involvement with the All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience at the Colts practice facility and this immediately piqued my interest.

Given that I just been demoted to second string in the lives of my kids, I was immediately interested when I heard the mention of All Pro Dad.

All Pro Dad

What Is All Pro Dad?

The purpose behind the All Pro Dad program is to try and help men to be better fathers. The program from Family First works with 43 NFL spokesmen to provide a multitude of events and resources all intended to inspire and educate fathers on how to be actively involved in their children’s lives.

This is the first that I have heard of this program and I have to admit, right now I feel a little like a kid on Christmas morning.

Looking through the All Pro Dad website, I have already found quite a bit of great information and I have just scratched the surface. There are free articles, screen savers, and even free online classes. One of the online classes that is at the top of my list is 10 Ways To Be A Better Dad.

Events and More Information

Just in case you didn’t think the free resources were enough to keep you satisfied, All Pro Dad also coordinates various events and provides tips via a daily email. Here are a few highlights of what you can find at All Pro Dad:

  • Play of the Day :: The Play of the Day is a daily e-mail service and offers dads the chance to receive hard-hitting, concise, helpful and free information on how to be a better dad.
  • All Pro Dad’s Day :: The All Pro Dad’s Day is a one-hour monthly breakfast that takes place before school or on a Saturday morning. This monthly breakfast provides an opportunity for dads and their children to meet with other dads and kids at school or a local restaurant. The discussion covers a wide range of topics and All Pro Dad provides a handful of free materials to help make each event worthwhile for everyone.
  • Father & Kids Experience :: The All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience is held at an NFL team’s practice facility or stadium and provides a variety of stations where everyone can participate in interactive games while learning fatherhood tips. This event will be offered at 12 NFL cities in 2007 and they hope to hold this in all NFL cities in the near future.

In Your Area

On the All Pro Dad website, you can look to see if there is a local chapter near your home. Don’t despair if there aren’t any local chapters as it is possible to start a chapter yourself.

When I looked in my area, there are a few chapters within the state but the closest is about 30-40 minutes away from where I live. Once I have a chance to digest more of the site, I may very well look into starting a chapter a little closer to home.

Head on over to All Pro Dad and start training today!

Haha, nice. You got a theme/trend going on here. Maybe one day this will become the dad/football balance blog. ;)

Thanks Derek. I can’t believe I had never heard of this program. I’m looking into creating a chapter closer to my home as well. Pretty neat thing! Keep up the great work with dad balance.

@Kelvin :: It was kind of funny how I discovered All Pro Dad right after posting about playing football with my boys. I could easily turn this into a football blog as I am a fanatic!

@knupNET :: That was my reaction as well, I couldn’t believe that I had never heard of this program. Let me know if you start up a chapter!
