Well, on the front of my mind now is: What "occupation" will allow me to spend more time with the kid(s). It may sound like a midlife crisis, but that's what I am pining for, personally.

While breaking it down for / by myself, I found that to achieve the time-at-with-kids objective, one needs flexible hours, ie most likely when the kids are in school and/or past their bedtime. That then usually means mobile-working, & working "alone" at home, & likely on the computer (laptop).

Perhaps then a discussion on what one can do given the above 2 "constraints"? Professional blogging is one I have been discovering a lot of lately... A novelist?

It's a broad topic being a dad so it's hard to say what I want to see. It might be fun to do some polls. I'll keep this in mind and get back to you. Good job, I enjoy visiting Dad Balance.

Derek,

I particularly like the idea of suggestions dads can follow to spend time with their kids. For example, I loved the post about doing something silly because I know from experience these are the things your kids will remember with sparkling eyes. Also, sometimes it seems working dads can get relegated to the role of authoritarian and enforcer, and it's good to remember that there's so much more to being a dad than just telling your kid to do his homework or encouraging her to play soccer.
