I could happily sit in a room and watch people for days, airports are hugely fun for that reason, yet something magical happens when you risk eye contact, a hello or check it out the water on your shirt is all beaded commentary( which is how our first chat started!!) I think for a shy guy your list was way impressive, and I am delighted to have been part of you overcoming your shyness. I’ll keep you posted on the college search – just think you’ll get to help your kids do that someday!!

Stephen, I am not moving to France. I was making reference to a conversation that Paul and I had about France and the fact that he was planning to move there shortly.

The furthest that I have ventured out of the US was Wheatley, Ontario and Tijuana, Mexico.

@John :: It is funny you mention that, as after I posted this I thought to myself that the list of people that I mentioned was rather significant. And there were many more people that I met briefly that were not included here.

@Paul :: We should coordinate an in-person interview once you move to France.

@Stephen :: Let me tell you, seeing you and sharing a nice handshake and greeting each time was a very calming thing. Your closing comments choked me up and I think just about everyone in the room felt the same way!

@Terry :: Likewise, and you will certainly be seeing me for SOBCon09. Speaking of which, my door is open if there is anything that I can do to help make that a reality.

@Stephen :: Lol, that dinner was a good time and I thought the sharing of knowledge between everyone was so exciting. I’ll have my eye out for the cool new stuff!

Derek, I never had you pegged as shy, although when you were sitting with us at dinner you were surrounded by 4 pretty over-the-top people. To say that we were outgoing is an understatement.

I’m telling you–I left SOBCon08 feeling great about the people I met, including yourself.

I am proud of you for having stepped out of your comfort zone to attend the conference. I know we didn’t have much of a chance to talk but we most definitely made a connection – I enjoyed greeting you with a firm handshake and having a few words with you.

I got to know Wendy a lot more after the conference was over and I’m so glad the two of you hooked up. I am very much looking forward to staying in touch with you.

Despite what you say about being shy, you absolutely rock. My eyes are actually starting to well up again. This has been the most humble experience I’ve ever had – meeting like-minded people like yourself was just incredible. Priceless. I was looking through photos from Flickr and my eyes got a little wet again. Jeez.

Reading from halfway around the world, all I can comment is: For a “shy” guy, that sure is a long list of people you did (eventually) meet!

I can certainly relate to your standing-on-the-side observing. I do that all the time… But that’s another topic altogether!
