Congratulations; great tips! I think one tip I would add for people hoping to leave their jobs is to try to get more comfortable with the idea of risk. Going from employee to entrepreneur means learning to accept that there is risk involved in everything we do, and to look at it as a challenge rather than a barrier to success. I think you are so right. There a gems of wisdom in many courses and training that may not be directly related to your field. In fact I believe that sometimes that outside looks causes you to look at your business from a different perspective that many inside the industry may not be able to see. This could lead you to a breakthrough that other may be missing.

I think one thing you didn't mention is that you have to work twice as hard when you work for yourself. It's easy to goof off on your employer's dime, but when you are on your own and not studiously working then nobody is going to sign your paycheck.
