When Jack Is Gone, Say Hello To The Captain

Today was one of those days where everything was cruising along better than expected – at least until the disappointing news delivered during my annual performance review.

Don’t get me wrong – my annual performance review was not negative but the company where I work classifies your performance based on whether you did not meet your expectations, you met your expectations, or you exceeded your expectations.

Last year I exceeded expectations – like that is a surprise to you, lol.

Unfortunately, it was determined that I only met my expectations this year – all while working every weekend for the first three and a half months of the year and assuming new positions outside of my job description the remainder of the year. And even though my boss’ review classified me as exceeding expectations, the next boss up the chain of command pushed back on that.

Needless to say, I am in the process of putting together my justification as to why I believe that my peformance has exceeded expectations to discuss the matter with my boss’ boss – although I am going to resume that in the morning as tonight is dedicated to a little R&R.

Sometimes you just need to put everything down and relax.

After arriving home from work with the wind out of my sail, my wife and kids provided a pleasant break as we talked about the day and spent a little time goofing around.

Once the kids were in bed, I began to prepare my statements regarding my review when I realized that the blood pressure was beginning to rise again.

Rather than stress about work, it was time to put everything down and pour myself a nice cold drink and do a little work on the blogs. Unfortunately – as if fate is slapping me in the face tonight – the Jack Daniels is gone and my Interweb connection is acting wanky so hopefully this post goes out before the connection drops again.

Fortunately for me, there was a bottle of Captain Morgan tucked in the back of the cabinet.

As I was reminded tonight, it is important not to let the stress of disappointing news consume you but rather view it as an opportunity to rise above and improve your situation.

But that can wait until the morning, as the ice is melting and the Captain is calling my name…

Thanks Damien. It has been a long time since I have had a raw egg and I think I’d prefer to keep it that way. :)
