At What Point Do You Ask For Help?

My clients are pretty varied. Some just don’t want to be bothered by technical stuff and there are some who only come to me after they’ve spent way too much time on a problem. I can certainly identify with that. I like to solve problems myself but have to admit, there are some problems that are best solved either by someone or with the insight of someone else.

My question to you is, how long do you try to solve a technical problem before you throw your hands in the air and say “I need help!”
Would you be willing to spend days or weeks on it?

Lynette, I definitely spend too much time trying to figure things out that should be outsourced. I think I’m afraid of being dependent on someone else for something really important to my business, you know?
Yes, I totally get that. But I’ve found most of the time I’m not entirely dependent on people. For example, if I hire someone to create a program for me. I may not be able to create every single thing in the program myself but once it’s handed over to me, I have a basis to work with and know how to work/tinker with it for the future. So even though they built it for me, they don’t manage it for me. When I do get in over my head again, then I would ask for an explanation.
