When you have a big site that’s a good thing because it usually means you have a lot of content, users, comments and traffic. But that can be a nightmare if you want to move your site. Thankfully, some web hosts will help you move your sites. If they do, go that route because it is very easy for them because they have access to the tools and have higher permissions level. But sometimes, for whatever reason they won’t or can’t. Yet sometimes, all you want to do is just move one database, not necessarily a whole web site.
Which means you have to do it yourself. If your database is over 2MB or even 10MB, you will have a hard time restoring it at your new host. That’s where this free tool BigDump comes in. It lets you import very large databases.
I’ve used it several times and each time has been a flawless experience. Just be warned that this is a little more technical than the stuff we cover regularly so if you’re lost that’s OK. However, if you are backed up against the wall with a big database to import, don’t mind reading some simple instructions and get your hands dirty, BigDump is the way to go.
