Richard Jalichandra & Technorati are about to release their annual State of the Blogosphere Report for 2008. It is a fascinating roundup of statistics around the ever-changing blogosphere, and worthy of noting this year is the blurring line between mainstream media and blogs.
He opened his presentation giving the audience a foundational overview of how social media has evolved. That we’re not “consumers” anymore, we are part of a brand conversation. He confirmed what I have been seeing for a while – blogs are now truly a part of mainstream media. 95 of the top 100 newspapers have blogs.
I found his commentary on how blogs have been interacting with brands particularly interesting. Here’s a quick excerpt of his really fantastic presentation:

The State of the Blogosphere Report will be released by Technorati on Monday. I don’t think there is any statistic you would want to know that they won’t be covering in their report!
