A web site is no different than any computer system. It can fail. Sometimes when your web host upgrades the server, things could go wrong. At other times, relationship with your web host could turn sour for a variety of reasons. They were sold to another company or individual, or you’ve outgrown your current service. Finally, there are those pesky hackers. I’ve been through it all. That’s why I always lean on my clients heavily to get their sites backed up.

It is a super easy process, only takes a few minutes each time. This video will illustrate how I do my backups and should equip you or your assistant with the knowledge how to do yours.

Great video Lynette, nice and simple to understand. I am a back-up fiend especially since my hubby’s hard drive crashed last fall – of course he still never backs his up, but that is sooo not a Christie Problem! I use Mozy for my Mac and an external hard drive.

I have several hard disks where I make my backups. This is quite handy. I have burned myself once loosing over 56 MB of documents when my hard disk crashed so I payed the recovery service witch recovered around 20% of my files… what a waste for not doing just 3 minutes of work.

And that’s the rub about data recovery services isn’t it Kim? You aren’t guaranteed you’ll get all of it back. Sorry it had to happen to you but am confident you’ve now got a good backup schedule in place :)
