My 10 Must Have Firefox Add-Ons

Picking up the talk about browsers again, I’ve been looking at my list of Firefox Add-Ons. Some of these I’ve been using for a long, long time and cannot ever do without. I’m sharing my list here so you could maybe find something useful too.

  1. BBCodeXtra – this helps me format lists, URLs and text on forums. Love it. Great for quoting and pasting links.
  2. ColorZilla – if you work with websites as much as I do you’ll always find a need to match colors or find out the color code.
  3. DownThemAll! – If you are in one of those 20 PLR pack membership sites or even membership sites that give you a bunch of different downloads, this is super helpful. Right click, check all the ZIPs, EXEs, PDFs you want to download and voila – it’ll go grab them. No more downloading one by one.
  4. Firebug – Won’t be able to troubleshoot design issues without this.
  5. FireFTP – For quick and easy uploads – it’s kinda slow in my experience if you’re uploading a whole script package. But for the odd handful of files, works great.
  6. IE Tab – For viewing sites and flipping between IE and Firefox quickly.
  7. ShowIP – Good for troubleshooting or when switching web hosts. It will show you which IP your site is loading from.
  8. Split Browser – I call it the poor (wo)man’s dual monitor :)
  9. User Agent Switcher – Great to check what your site looks like on a mobile device.
  10. Web Developer – There’s a bunch of tools in here and I don’t use it as much now that I have Firebug but the Ruler and form tool is really useful.

The only Firefox plugin I use is Twitbar. It’s a quick & easy way to share a website to twitter.

The web developer extension is just the greatest. Firebug is it’s equal, though. I could not live without firebug. I wonder what I did before firebug was invented…hmmm

Hey, it’s a great list. DownThemAll and Colorzilla seem good. Another add on that I really like is Billeo ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12715 ). It’s a free browser plug-in that manages passwords, saves receipts and auto fills forms. The tool is VeriSign secured and TRUSTe certified, so no security issues.

I love addon and Wordpress plugins but the only one you have listed that I use is FireFTP.

I looked through a lot of FTP programs to find one I like but then I found FireFTP and it cost me nothing but the time it took to install it. I love it.

I also use the Session Manager addon. It’s a great way to keep a set of tabs saved so I can quickly get back to them later.

And the other Addon that I wouldn’t do with out now is FoxMarks. I have lost all my bookmarks in the past when Firefox has updated but not any more.

@James: I don’t know how I missed mentioning session manager. Yup, one of my essentials too.

@Toddler mom: My sentiments exactly

@Bob: I used to have a Twitter firefox plugin too then I switched to TweetDeck – not a plugin

I am a huge FF fan! I love Firebug, and thanks for sharing the rest of the addons, will try them out. :)

I use many of add-ons already mentioned. Some others I recommend include:

FAYT- “Find As You Type” toolbar control.
FEBE- backup your Firefox data and extensions.
AutoPager- automatically loads next page.
Easy DragToGo- drag to open link in a new tab.
CustomizeGoogle- customize Google results and remove ads.
All-In-One-Sidebar- a great sidebar tool for efficiency and highly customizable.
Adblock Plus- eliminate ads on Web pages

Wow, thank you Dan for sharing your list. Very interesting that FAYT. Easy DragToGo sounds promising too, though I am so used to middle clicking on my mouse to open links in a new tab.
