Originally I was skeptical about netbooks and stuck to DTR-style 17" notebooks with powerful 3d graphics, however one day I was about to spend hours waiting for appointments and being stuck in different places. On an impulse I went to BestBuy and picked up a Dell Mini 10. Now, it's not the best of the netbook crowd (even after I've replaced the hard-drive with Corsair 64GB SSD), but I loved the concept so much that I've decided to start my own netbook blog

I have a little Acer Mini that I'm enjoying for being on the road or just puttering around from my recliner. @Traci: Keyboard sizes are usually proportional to the size of the netbook itself. The smaller the netbook, the smaller the keyboard I’ve only ever experienced the Asus. Even though it is cramped compared to a normal laptop it’s OK. Keep in mind, I have fairly large hands so you might find it pretty comfortable.

I’ve heard that the HP’s have a pretty large keyboard but then again so is the price

@Nick: Netbooks aren’t exactly meant to be powerhouses. That’s why most of them come in Windows XP or Linux. Running Vista on them is a stretch on its resources let alone Windows 7. Also Netbook batteries aren’t known to last long. You can choose a unit with a larger battery but 8 hours is a long time. Even some regular laptops don’t get that far.

But question is, why do you need 8 hour battery life? If you do a lot of extensive stuff then maybe you really need a regular laptop.

I am constantly tempted by the idea of getting a netbook, but I want something that will get at least 8 hours of hard use and has one of the nub pointers since I'm so bad with a touchpad. Plus, with Windows 7 right around the corner, the battery life numbers will be changing (hopefully for the better), but it makes it even harder to pick. Thanks for this - I've been wondering about the netbook thing for a while now. I just can't get past the too-small keyboards.
