Sparkplugging is starting a new tradition called ‘Spark an Idea Thursday’. Each week we’ll be sharing some great ideas for a topic of interest to our readers. We invite you to grab our image and carry the tradition through to your own blog! If you do, please link back to this post so we know where you were inspired!
This week we’re Sparking an Idea that shows appreciation to a client or colleague…
It’s always such a good feeling to demonstrate how thankful you are of someone but I’m also a believer of doing little things often. You know, like loving Mom every day and not just on Mothers’ day sort of thing.
I try to use uplifting words every time someone finishes a task for me no matter how small. Then there are times when I’ve gone out and purchased software for partners and people working for me. Once in a while I also like to send real cards out, sometimes these cards come with a gift sometimes just the card with my heartfelt words.
I use SendOutCards to help me with it so I don’t have to keep running out to town to get a card. It’s convenient and I’ve had my own handwriting made into a font. Regardless what you feel about these tools, I think it is still a good one because the words are my own and I do take time to pick out the ‘perfect’ card for the occasion.
With money tighter these days finding other ways to show appreciation is a good idea. I’ve not been very good at this in the past. These are the things I hope to do in the very near future for clients, partners and assistants.
- Commenting on their blogs more often
- Stumbling their posts
- Re-tweeting their tweets
- Create blog posts about their successes or what they’ve taught me – basically spotlighting them
- Create freebies which link or mention their web sites
- Building a Squidoo lens just for someone I admire/respect – I must give credit to Kelly McCausey for this idea
- Having a closed customer only sale/offer/freebie

Great ideas, Lynette!! You have me thinking now….LOL!!
Whenever I see a news article, a book etc. that I think would be of interest to a friend, business associate etc. I like to call or email them or cut the article out and mail it to them. Recently I saw a new gluten free cookbook at Costco. I have a friend whose daughters are allergic to gluten so I called her to tell her about the book. It lets people know you are thinking of them.

Encourage people to be heard. Give them the space to freely express their opinions and reward them by actually listening and thanking them. Allow them to show off their thinking. It’s not always easy to listen but it opens the door for real growth & collaboration, which is essential because no one succeeds alone. Lennie Rose http://www.BigOoga.com/blog
