I was told a couple of years ago that I should spend a big amount of time thinking up ‘offers’ to make to my target market and it mades sense. You can’t make a sale if you haven’t anything to sell can you?
I make sales just about very day in one way or another and they’re all a response to an offer of some kind.
When I create a webpage, write up a description of something (whether a product or a service) and I provide a link to a shopping cart check out, I’m making an offer.
When I write an email and provide a check out link, I’m making an offer. When I blog, when I tweet, when I post on a forum, when I talk with a potential client - anytime I issue a specific invitation to act, I am making an offer.
If sales slow down - I know I need to start making more offers. Or drive more traffic to the offers I’ve already made.
Making Offers Has Become As Natural As Smiling.
It wasn’t alway like that. There was a time when I was shy to tell someone who a product or service I had to offer. It took time and experience to grow comfortable with inviting others take action.
Something important for me was to break out of the attitude that I was asking somebody for a favor. Sure, there are times when we make a sale from someone who is being supportive of our efforts - but you can’t make a living on mercy purchases.
I think it’s normal to be hesitant at first - especially if you’ve never been in a sales or service situation before. Over time however, if you believe in your products and services - you’ll gain confidence.
This confidence backed by testimonials, real life examples of how your wares and advice have helped others, will eventually embolden you to develop more offers.
Sounds good doesn’t it?
If you’re scared to make offers, the best advice I can give you is to:
- First make sure you’re making good offers to the right people.
- Watch how others make offers and see how you can emulate their approach.
- Know your stuff. We’re always more nervous when we feel unprepared.
Then - just do it. Do it scared. Do it nervous. Do it shy.

Confidence comes from Surviving Scared, Nervous and Shy!

Great topic for a future seminar
I’m working more on my site later this afternoon so, I’m glad I read this. Thanks!
Great advice, something I definitely need to “expand” on.
