This week we’re Sparking an Idea that shows appreciation to a client or colleague…
One of the first bits of manners children are taught besides saying “please” is saying “thank you”. As they get older, parents also get them involved in the thank you note process. Its a simple gesture. In fact, its power is underestimated. But one of the surest ways to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues is by saying thank you.
No matter how big or small the act, its important to acknowledge those who have been kind or helpful. I always try to send a thank you when:
- Someone sends an email praising my website
- Someone submits information to be used on my site.
- Someone is a guest on my blog or podcast
- Someone emails and points out an error on my site.
- Someone refers someone to my business.
- Someone interviews me for their podcast, radio show or article
- Someone complains… yes even then, I thank them for their feedback.
Thank you notes (emailed or otherwise) are going the way of the dodo. So by taking the few extra moments to send a thank you can you set you apart from all the others that people do business with. People will remember your note and want to do business with you again. So aside from being good manners, sending a thank you is good business.

Great reminder of all the opportunities to show gratitude.
Saying thank you is so important. My fifteen year old daughter and I were talkng about it today. She is late for the bus almost every morning. Her sweet bus driver always waits for her. She told me that she always makes sure she says thank you when she gets on the bus and when she gets off the bus – that display of gratitude goes a long way – the bus waits for her!
